Life Insurance question

ken_nj's Photo ken_nj 14 Aug 2007

Hey, say I go ahead and make sure I have a life insurance policy set for the exact amount needed for my cryonics and whatnot. Now say I have like unpaid student loans or any other debt. Can they take that from your life insurance policy and effectively screw you if you have cryonics arrangements or whatnot in place?

It is my understanding that your life insurance policy is a contract that goes exactly where you want it to go when you are declared legally dead. That is one of the benefits of having life insurance instead of having the cash on hand to fund the cryonic suspension. (family members could fight over the money after you were gone, but an insurance policy is something they couldn't get their hands on)

If you have questions about cryonics related to life insurance, I would recommend talking to Rudi Hoffman about it. http://www.rudihoffm...m/cryonics.html

He is an insurance person that specializes in cryonics, (is actually signed up for cryonics as well) and I am sure he would be happy to answer any questions about it that you may have.

Yeah Rudi is great! I just replaced my children's policies that had been set up with someone else, with policies set up by him. He found a better deal with an A rated company Posted Image

At least at Alcor the policy is that you make Alcor the owner of the policy and not just the beneficiary. If you ever want to cancel your membership they will turn the policy over to you but this has the double benefit of ensuring that the insurance payout avoids any estate taxes as well as being protected from any claims on your estate. It's just fortunate that creditors don't keep interest accruing after cryonic suspension :p

edit: Isn't this Imminst? The spell check doesn't recognize the word cryonic.

We have a spell check?

(You could be referring to the one in Firfox, which I love, but has no affiliation with ImmInst of course. You can always right click and go down to "add to dictionary".)

Rudi has redone his website: http://www.rudihoffman.com/

He also is working on a book that will simplify the process of signing up for cryonics. If you have any questions though he will be happy to answer them. He finds great deals for all sorts of insurance policies for cryonics related purposes and non-cryonics related purposes, including end-of-life care. I've worked with 5 life insurance agents over the years, and have come to be impressed with the quality policies Rudi can find, also his grasp on how to help people sign up for Alcor or CI.

Weird. Awkward.

Nice bright blue blazer.

Nice awkward, weird, fake smile while saying "Likeable".

There are a lot of peculiar folks in the cryonics world...

Rudi is very knowledgeable, and likable :)
For the record, he is my insurance agent - and I'm jealous of his blazers.

"All transactions come with free custom made blazers."

Rudi is sitting on a marketing gold mine

Maybe so. But why does everything in these circles have to look and feel so creepy and awkward?

No offense.

I have no idea what he looks like, but Rudi Hoffman did an outstanding job for me. So I recommend him to anyone.
