How about a conference on that day, December 21, 2012 in Maya, Mexico?
Maybe that will be the day of the Singularity. (Kurzweil did say "The Singularity is near".)
I think that molecular nanotechnology will come about August 15, 2020.
The first nanobots will be dumb and able to do only one task. Like remove the free radicals from the mitochondria.
