why do you think source naturals is questionable?

i have never heard anyone say that before, and they generally put forth very well-formulated products. it would be difficult to find a better multi-vitamin than their life force product.

source naturals actually ranks towards the top of my list, along with NOW, Life Extension, and Carlson.

I also take a few Source Naturals products. I'm unaware of any issues.

I was looking at their multi and magnesium/calcium products the other day, but they seem to contain the oxide forms of zinc and magnesium which many have stated have the lowest absorption.

rainbow light failed some testing for lead contamination.

source naturals wouldnt provide my old workplace with COA...

read source natursl quality statement, paying special attention to the 'mays'
http://www.iherb.inf...inks/snsptf.pdf

now read jarrows quality statement:
http://www.jiimfg.com/quality.html

huge difference.

ajnast4r,

What do you think of Planetary Herbals? I am currently trying their Bacopa extract. Bacopa is one herb that none of the big reputable companies like NOW, Jarrow, LEF and New Chapter seem to be interested in.

Actually, New Chapter does sell it within its Neurozyme formulation. It's a small quantity however (30 mg from two capsules). Interestingly enough it seems to be a rather popular product, at least from last glance at the Whole Foods Market nearby.

I myself use the Planetary Herbals Bacopa product alongside the Vitamin Shoppe one. Vitamin Shoppe is a rather reputable if you want to go with them.

I buy many of my supplements under the Vitamin Shoppe brand name. Many of you may or may not know that Vitamin Shoppe does not manufacture the products they sell under their name. Many of the products they sell are made by respectable companies. Or, vitamin shoppe buys patented products from the same manufacturer that some supplement companies buy their products from. For example, vitamin shoppe brand astaxanthin is in the form of BioAstin, grapeseed extract is MegaNatural Gold, and their MSM is OptiMSM. In some cases, well known supplement companies like jarrow's will sell their product to the vitamin shoppe and the vitamin shoppe will sell the product for a lower price. IMO, vitamin shoppe is the best place to get high quality supplements at the lowest price. Every few months they have a buy one get one half price sale for the entire month. I also have found that they have great deals online when you become a member of their online shop. No, I do not work for the vitamin shoppe. Though I have thought about getting a part time job there so I could save even more money.

the vitamin shopped brand is not reputable.

vitamin shoppes products are not produced cGMP, even though they are branded products. different products are produced by different companies, but most are produced in the same non cGMP factory... which is why so many vitamin shopped products have been contaminated with lead (google vitamin shoppe law suit). there is a production list, but most vitamin shoppes dont have it. you can ask for it or ask who produces the specific products you take. really, unless buying the product in person is a huge issue... companies like swanson offer the same branded products, but produced in cGMP factories as MUCH MUCH lower prices than vitamin shoppe even with their 50% sale.

not what i would consider a 'top tier' brand.

swanson sells bacognize brand bacopa (45% extract) for SUPER cheap
http://www.swansonvi...il?n=4294967192

you can also find sabinsa's bacopin (20% extract) sold by AFI all over the web.

When was the last time you checked up on Vitamin Shoppe? According to GNC the FDA issued an order that all supplement companies had to adhere to the cGMP starting on 2008, 2009 and 2010 it spans three years depending on the size of your work force, the larger the work force the sooner you have to adhere to those practices. So, if VS is not using cGMP procedures are they not breaking the law?

That's good to know. I have been taking many of their products. I know a few people that work there and I think I remember one of them mentioning something about that. My brain has not been functioning great as of late due to medications/depression so I forget these things very easily.

If Swanson is that much cheaper, I may consider switching over to buying most of my supplements from them. I will be taking a closer look at Swanson and Vitamin Shoppe to see if I should make the switch. Thanks for the info.

I'd list these brands as being the best brands to buy at a local shopping center. Now, Puritans Pride, Natures Bounty and Jarrows get my stamp of approval.

Hi it appears here is a couple that qualify for worst, not just because they lack COAs, but because of marketing and the small print:

Resveratrol Ultra complaints:
http://www.complaint...ra-a124060.html

All ResV Complaints Filed:
http://www.complaint...om/?search=resv

Again, Dr. Oz and Oprah do not endorse any product, and are seeking legal recourse against the companies that show their pictures, or state text that makes people believe they endorse any of these products.

Here is a channel 5 report on this:

I wouldn't buy Doctor's Best because I think they failed tests done by Consumer Labs. I don't order from Vitacost because the 2 times I did the pills that arrived were missing the lid or covered in a slimey substance. I like buying Jarrows, AOR and NOW. I would buy LEF but they're usually expensive.

I agree, I use to purchase from vitacost, but after my last two orders I will never buy from them again. I had one order of of products manufactured buy North American Herb and Spice company come and the one I opened, the capsules were jelled, and the smell was not to good either.

I just ordered some Solgar methylfolate from iherb because they were the only brand that had it (at least on iherb)...hopefully I won't die from lead poisoning.

they buy it from merck im sure it will be pure... the issue is mostly with non-branded products.

I hope Swanson is a good line as I saw their b-complex in another thread and after perusing their line-up they have quite a few products I plan to purchase. I just don't know how they can offer these products for what appears to be an absurddly low price.

swanson is good... they are a HUGE company and have been around for a long time, im sure that has a lot to do with their pricing. their house brand quality is excellent.

They failed a test by COnsumer Lab for Chondroitin, which contained only 8% of the listed ingredient.

I prefer companies that conform to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This eliminates all the vendors that don't test their raw materials, including the smaller vendors that lack the necessary resources. Check the Good Manufacturing Practices Registration for Dietary Supplements to see if your supplier is compliant.

You may be surprised, For example, Now Foods is not listed as GMP compliant--likely reflecting inadequate testing of raw materials or finished products.  Whereas, Swanson is GMP compliant.
