P5P is inferior to pyridoxamine for glycation. Yes it is superior for lipid glycation.

Wafker reckons "While the B6 vitamin activity of all its vitamers is comparable since the body contains interconversion enzymes, the activity of [Pyridoxamine] as an amino acid or protein glycation inhibitor has been shown to be superior to that of [pyridoxine], [pyridoxal] and [P5P]"

Pyridoxamine is now classified as a drug due to one of its active ingredients, thus it is no longer available as a supplement.

Yes, well Pyridoxamine is the active ingredient. ;-) But we know the FDA's position as it has been discussed here (it is not yet an approved drug BTW). Also can be read in this LEF article:

http://www.lef.org/m...doxamine_01.htm

But you can still find it until sold out at LEF. I got my last 2 bottles from them just a few weeks ago.

Edit:typos

Frank,

when does yours expire? Thanks.

Well, the last ones I recieved from LEF has a 'for optimal potency use by 06/11' print on them (previous batch was 01/11), so might keep a few in the fridge/freezer for now...

For anti-glycation, I take
p5p
b12 methylcobalamin (my diet is low in meat)
and loooooooots of tea

Did you mean B6 or B1? B12 is important but I never heard of anti-glycation effects.

I have a diet free from meat and against glycation I take:
- Carnosine (the best glycation inhibitor for it's ability to withdraw glycated proteines from the body!)
- Pyridoxamine
- Benfotiamine
- Aminoguanidine
- EGCG
- Quercetin
- 5 types of Ginseng
- Pure licorice
- Emodin (in my RESV pills)
- Sometimes carnitine drink after sports

Natural substances like ginseng or (pure/sugarfree) licorice can be very good glycation inhibitors, sometimes better than the isolated chemicals.

Carnosine is a must!

R-lipoic acid combined with RHDLA(only one company makes this) combined with palm oil tocotrienols has good effect. As always, need to cycle them (regular brief off-periods). I can't imagine using Viagra regularly, unless they were micro-dosing.

ive used viagra as study aid and no, you dont get errections all of sudden out of nothing. it has to be stimulation so it wouldnt be a problem to experiment with it regular doses.

and to ask, what exactly is RHDLA

Sorry it's RDHLA. It's the antioxidant that R-lipoic acid converts to. See Geronova.com for more.

I realize I'm replying to an old post from more than 6 years ago but carnosine has an incredibly short half-life. The timing would have to be perfect if it even actually prevents cross-links. It's apparently out of your system in 90 mins. Let's say I eat a bowl of ice cream, when would glycation happen and at what point would I take the pill?

nate, its short half life is much better than no life at all considering not much else is widely available to counteract glycation. what we can is what we do, its summary of advancement in this field, still short

Agreed, , we are in the state of oxidation twenty-four, seven, since birth. Any neutralization of oxidation, no matter how brief is better than none at all. Supplementing and exercise work.
