Honokiol shows nice anti-fungal effects

https://www.ncbi.nlm...es/PMC4339376/

magnolol and honokiol could not only inhibit the formation of biofilm but also destroy the maintenance of mature biofilm. Magnolol and honokiol at the concentration of 32 μg/mL (1×MIC) inhibited more than 90% biofilm formation in the early phase and the developmental phase. In addition, 64 μg/mL (2×MIC) of magnolol and honokiol destroyed the maintenance of about 50% mature biofilm (Fig. 4). The effects of these two compounds were similar with amphotericin B. Moreover, both compounds at a concentration of 16 μg/mL effectively reduced the thickness and viability of biofilm (Fig. 5).     In summary, our data indicate that magnolol and honokiol could inhibit biofilm formation through decreasing adhesion, morphological transition, and their fungicidal effect.     Taken together, our results suggest that magnolol and honokiol suppressed adhesion, transition from yeast to hyphae, and inhibited C. albicans biofilm formation.

Mice study https://sfamjournals...X.2010.02900.x shows synergistic anti-fungal benefit with fluconazole, and worked against the flunconazole resistant strains too

From the data above, it could be concluded that HNK shows a potent antifungal effect against FLC-resistant strains, when combined with FLC. In mouse infection model, the interaction of HNK and FLC showed a significant synergism, which was consistent with the results in vitro. The FLC⁄HNK therapy was more efficacious than FLC monotherapy in clearing Candida from the kidneys.

Treatment with FLC or a combination of FLC and HNK significantly prolonged the survival of animals compared to that of untreated controls. Compared with FLC monotherapy group, the survival rate of mice treated with FLC plus HNK was raised from 80 to 100%. control was 20% survival

The low cytotoxic and significant antifungal properties of HNK make this natural product a potential compound for novel antifungal agent.

Wonder how this translates to human dose though anyone know?

all thats mentioned is 1282 μg ml−1 for HNK. think magnolol / honokiol have around 30% oral bio-availability.
