HJB (Heales Journal of Biogerontology) gives 500 euro (609.56 USD, current conversion rate) to the authors of the first paper that receives a score of over 85% (details below).

HJB is a new international, freely available, online, peer-reviewed scientific journal aimed at publishing high-quality papers about the science of aging. The journal will publish reviews, original research and theoretical papers about a wide range of biogerontological topics written by university students and professional scientists. Invited reviews by experts in the field will provide our readers with the latest insights in the discussed topic. These reviews form good study material for teachers and students. One of the unique features of this journal is that reading and publishing in it is completely free! Another one is our dedicated assistance to students who are in the process of writing their papers. We hope that this journal can encourage students to choose a career in biogerontology; a blossoming field with a lot of future prospects.

1. Papers able to be rewarded this prize are: reviews, original research papers and theoretical papers.

2. Papers written or co-authored by Editorial Board members cannot be rewarded the HJB prize.

3. The prize will consist of a monetary reward of 500 euro split equally by all co-authors of the winning paper and a certificate for every co-author.

4. The decision of which paper is rewarded the HJB prize will be made by the members of the Editorial Board (Sven, Vincent, Kelsey and Kris). Each member gives a score from 0 to 10 for each paper submitted and accepted for publication in HJB. The scores will be added and the first paper that receives a combined score of 85% will be rewarded the HJB prize. The order of papers is determined by the date of final submission.

5. The prize will only be rewarded ones, unless the Board of Heales vzw-asbl decides otherwise.

That's really cool :) I have two questions:

1. Apart from the prize when is the first issue planned to be released? Just asking to have a broad 'deadline' until which I would have to write a paper.

2. I'm a PhD Student and thinking about writing a theoretical paper about the limitations aging researchers today face with biomarkers or purely 'length of life' experiments & suggest possible solutions. Would such a topic be of any interest?

Thanks for your interest!

1. At this moment we don't have a good view on that issue. I would say that you surely will have time enough, at least 6 months.

2. Yes, that would make a fine subject.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions: sven.bulterijs@heales.org
