Okay, since it seems that removing or even greatly reducing scars is biologically impossible...does anyone know how I might prevent scarring?

I get these strange bubble-like sores on my face that leave deep saucer/crater scars. I've been to numerous derms and nothing they have given me helps, so it doesn't look I can stop the sores. What I do need to do is stop the severe scarring that they leave. I mean, this is my face for God's sake. Anywhere else and I could care less but my face is becoming increasingly scarred on a regular basis.

I know it's not a panacea but did a proper retin-a course help?

What are the sores too? Did you know what's causing them?

Hi Ben,

No retin-a has never done much for my skin other than irritate it badly. The docs are stumped as to what the bumps are. They start out like a regular pimple but then they morph into a blister-like sore and will then persist completely unchanged for weeks to months. I had one last for around 2 months without changing at all. Then they slow start to recede until they are dried out and flat with the skin. A couple weeks later and a very deep saucer scar will form where the sore was. I now have these scars all over my cheek bones on both sides of my face.

I have no idea what is causing them. They started about 6 months ago with no change to my routine at all.

Is there truly nothing that can prevent scarring from occurring?

I found some info online that manuka honey is supposed to prevent scarring but I personally tested that hypothesis and it failed miserably.

It has to be some kind of acne. I would keep up the retin-a but go slowly to start with and just hack it through the irritation. It takes a while for my skin to look nice when I start it up. I nearly gave up first go.

What about salicylic acid, azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc. Have they been helpful at all?

Are they boils? If they're non-responsive to Retin-A then it's probably some very fierce acne maybe. Retin-A could take a while to work, but it never did much for me except dry my face out. Do you get yearly thyroid levels checked?

Weird they would just appear with no change in routine, very strange. More strange that derms couldn't provide any advice. Not sure of any scar prevention other than diet, for how the body would repair or protect itself from certain things like this. Maybe you might give something along the lines of MSM a try?

You may have a different situation but from personal experience, its been less than a week of manuka honey applied topically and ingesting the remainder of my small spoon dip because ive heard of benefit from consumption as well..
long story short, I fell and got a puncture of skin on my forehead and scratches all up and down the right side of my face, before, it would take 10-12 days to get to where i am now in just 6 days (yes, it happened cinco de mayo) most all of my skin is completely healed, most didnt even scab (manuka prevents scabbing and therefore the moist environment allows the skin to heal directly without interference) one area that did scab, fell off yesterday.

I cannot be happier with the results of manuka for healing and preventing scars and also hear does wonders for acne, but not sure what you have

I have a large scar on my arm, i had a surgery after my arm broke just above my elbow. The scar is very long about 15cm. I lift weights alot and after 2 years the scar is still light red and not white like it should be after some period, porbably because my skin stretches due to the weight lifting. Does someone have any idea how imporve the healing?

Hi, I had two things just to add to this topic. The manuka honey you bought, did you ensure it was from an original source, I take some now and then purely for the health side of things, I know it should have the gold seal off approval ideally and be sourced from a NZ bee farm. Also have a UMF rating off 15+ I believe. There is a lot of crap trying to imitate it on the market I seem to spot around some health stores but it seems they don't seem anything like as beneficial. I will provide links if I can.... Also a note, without being intrusive have you had any blood tests, perhaps even Sti/Std checkup if you feel it may be necessary.

Second note, when applying the manuka honey use a ceramic, plastic or wooden implement. I hear that stainless steel or some metal implement actually null its effect and properties to quite some extent, I am currently looking for the links related, I will post them if I can

Before writing off this advice check here:
http://coconutresear...arch Center.pdf

So perhaps try EV Coconut Oil both orally and topically to cure/heal the blisters.

For scarring:

Also check out Sarah Vaughter's info on derma rolling:
