Hi dear Imminst Community!

While reading a bit on EFA I came across NAPEs:

Wikipedia Article on NAPEs

NAPEs are hormones that are released in the bloodstream when dietary fat is beeing processed.
NAPEs mediate appetite supression in the hypothalamus.

Here an Reuters article from 2008 on potential benefits of NAPEs in obesity: Reuters

Beside that NAPEs are endocannabinoid precursors (Anandamide).

NAPEs can be found in many vegetable oils, like olive il, hemp oil, avocado oils etc.

(I found a few online vendors that carry NAPE isolates for recreational use)

Do you see any benefits in adding small additional amounts of NAPEs to one's diet ?

Probably as a non stimulant weight loss aid, in treatment of chronic pain, or for potential (?) antidepressant properties?

I will try to obtain a few studies on this subject later this day.

Thank you very much for your input on this (how I find) interesting subject!

Best regards , Cephalon

EDIT:
While NAPEs seem to suppress apetite, Anandamide an endocannabinoid metabolite of NAPEs appears to induce overeating in mice:

I received my order on NAPEs in the mail today.
The material has an amber color and is of an smooth, fibrous, sticky texture.
It has a sharp chemical smell on it, which might come from the solvent (prob. acetone).
The taste is fatty, like a mild vegetable oil e.g. flax oil.
The NAPE I ordered is derived from olive oil.

First test:
50mg ingested: no noticable effects, neither on mood nor on appetite.

Second test:
+120min - 100mg ingested: noticable effect: relaxion, calmnes, slower reaction, mild euphoria
no noticable appetite suppression (prob. even more appetite)
(this dose is probably not usefull for daily supplementation, at least not daytime)

(tests were done on empty stomach after an approx. 8 h fasting period)

90min past second test: 1. intense reduction in appetite
(60 min past ingestion I got really hungry, so I cooked something, when I was finished cooking about 90min after ingestion I hardly managed to eat on spoon)
though this effect seems paradox to me, since NAPE is supposed to decrease appetite and its metabolites (Anadamine ..) are supposed to increase appetite ...
2. slight alteration in state of mind, definately mild cannabinoide activity (i have no tolerance to cannabinoids/do not use drugs recreational)
which again makes it unsuitable for daytime use
3. there might be a reduction in pain sensitivity, lighly burned myself while cooking, without much sensation of pain

Sumary of test 2: appetite reduction lasted the whole day, I have lived from a dozen cashews in the pm and 6 almonds in pm without feeling hungry, thinking of food ... but it feels different than appetite supression drugs from the amphetamine class, the appetite supression feels completly natural, as if your last meal was just one hour ago and you feel just fine, not over-eaten or with the amphetamin common disgust towards food, just not hungry.

(If a kind moderator sees this, could s(he) make all my posts to one?, that would be great.)

I'm glad to see there are finally weightloss products popping up on the market using N-oleyl-phosphatidylethanolamine (NOPE) as an active ingredient. Still curious if NAPEs will be explored for this purpose any further. I will have to look deeper in the mechanism of action of NOPEs, but given the similar structure it might work via the endocannabinoid system as well.

If anyone could come up with an easy synthesis starting from plant oils?

This is something I found online:

Safflower Oil - very strong pain killer
Peanut Oil - Pain killing, cb2 activty
Hempseed oil - unknown, presumably cb1/cb2 agonist imo, I'd lean toward cb1. from my tests with it, its definitely less cb2 than peanut oil, but less cb1 than rice bran.
Rice Bran Oil - Cb1 activity, Euphoria.
Olive Oil - cb2 activty, pain killing

There seem to be just two online suppliers of NAPES, both are US based.

Thanks!

Where did you get your NAPEs?
