I have done quite a bit of research into different supplements that may be effective for those who workout and wish to boost the benefits of exercise and speed recovery (ie reduce muscle soreness). Here is what I am proposing. Some of these you may not have heard of before. Any input would be greatly appreciated:

High Quality Multi (such as Vimmortal :~ )
Special attention to: Vitamin D3 & Omega 3s

Pre-Workout:
  • Mountain Ant (Polyrachis) Extract: adaptagenic, rich in zinc, is an ideal tonic for athletes, especially when combined with Ginseng
  • Panax Ginseng Extract: As a tonic, Panax Ginseng is generally used to increase athletic performance, strength, endurance and overall health.
  • Cordyceps: Cordyceps has been used in traditionally as an elite general tonic for promoting longevity, vitality and endurance. Cordyceps is used to strengthen the body and mind at a fundamental level.
  • He Shou Wu: A great zinc supplement, protects the Liver, improves blood flow, may lower blood fat and cholesterol, calming effect on the heart, rich in iron, blood tonic, antioxidant, enhances immunity
  • BCAAs: (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) prevent muscle breakdown during exercise, recovery
  • MSM: reduce soreness/fatigue
Enhance effectiveness of workouts:
  • Tongkat Ali (Pasak Bumi) Extract: Apart from the testosterone-related effects, the antimalarial, antibacterial, antipyretic, antiulcer, antitumor, and cytotoxic properties are well documented.
  • Nettle Extract: A highly concentrated extract from the Nettle root provides a unique mechanism for increasing levels of free testosterone. Recent European research has identified constituents of Nettle root that bind to SHBG in place of testosterone, thus reducing SHBG's binding of free testosterone. Therefore, this product is an excellent herbal extract to take in combination with tongkat ali.
  • when off cycling Tongkat Ali I intend to supplement with a combination of Fenugreek and Tribulus Terrestris Extracts rich in Protodioscin and Furostanol Saponins (along with Nettle)
Post-Workout:
  • Astaxanthin: astaxanthin is a fat-soluble nutrient with a unique molecular structure that gives it not only superior antioxidant capabilities, but also anti-inflammatory and immune-regulating properties.
  • Deer Antler Velvet: What was once thought to be an alternative treatment may soon become a part of main stream medicine as the alleged medical benefits of Deer Antler Velvet are being proven by new scientific research.
  • BCAAs: taken before and after workouts
  • MSM: taken before and after
  • Bitter Melon: It is the perfect insulin mimetic since it actually acts like insulin in the body, which is perfect for the bodybuilder since we are more concerned with shuttling amino acids into the muscle than sugars. Bitter melon is the better choice for people looking to take advantage of optimal post workout supplementation.

I have decided to make a change and eliminate the Ginseng as I also take noots such as piracetam, sulbutiamine, and Alpha GPC. It should be noted that pre-workout Alpha GPC has been shown to increase HGH release in response to the workout. Of course intense exercise boosts GH but Alpha GPC appears to accelerate this. In place of Ginseng (initially included for an energy boost) which seems to interact with a lot of things I decided to add the mild stimulant geranamine. The product AMP contains it and appears to be an effective energy boost with no crash.

I have ordered some DMAA and will be experimenting with it as well. I'm hoping that it won't bring the negative side effects that caffiene have on me (jitters, anxiety, palpatations and crash).
