I came across this funny comic, and it struck me as relevant to our struggle...

Hi there, Speaking of death prediction, I find it really odd that one of the on-line death prediction services showed me the same death date that I was foretold in my dream about a year ago.http://yourdeathdate.info/1/index.html - I can’t explain this coincidence in any other way except that there must be some kind of magic involved here.

I would say relevant, but not very funny.

This reminds me of how pervasive indifference in the human condition seems to be. I was thinking the other day, about how things like santa clause and the tooth fairy may (just hypothetically, as an example, for the sake of the thought) have been invented to show religious people how ridiculous it looked, and that it could have backfired, and the people just take it in to their world view as another piece in the stack of contradictions. Its like, why believe in one invisible friend but treat others as fun just-for-holidays gimmicks.

The same thing happens, most prominently it seems, with Halloween. The skeletons and the rotten zombies are smiling and the tomb stones are made into cartoons, and cookies are baked into their shapes and covered in sugar. When in reality, if you think about your relatives rotten remnants hanging on to their brittle bones you are horrified. Bring them here now for you to check out? Devastating. It's devastatingly horrible stuff, but human indifference was able to turn it into fun games.

I see horror in the comic above, and I know that the general public that reads it, generally sees an amusing comic. Thats why I like this comic, its another good example that lays that dichotomy out. It reminds us of the indifference. Good news though is that indifference is combatable, especially when you know its part of the problem. It may even be thee main problem.
