How do you do work at your monitor all day and not go crazy?

I sit in front of a monitor all day and most of the time I'm coding or working on something else. For the first 3 hours of a day, I can usually sit still and not need to move at all. This is usually my most productive time. After lunch, things start to go downhill. I used to get food coma very easily until I fixed my diet to reduce my carbohydrate intake. Now I am wide awake but still, I am fidgety and want to go chat with others as the hours go by. I probably leave and return to my desk around 10 times a day. I try not to compare myself with others but I can't help but notice the few other employees around me usually sit for much longer periods before they need to move. It's not just the need to move, but also the need to do something else. I get sick of what I'm doing and it does not matter what I'm doing as long as it requires concentration and thinking.

Back in the days of school (not that long ago actually), this thread would have been about studying.

I feel like I give up too easily when things get difficult. Do I need an attitude adjustment, or is this a specific neurological deficit that might be alleviated with noots or diet? I am not interested in prescription stimulants. I've tried them before with some success but prefer not to take them anymore.

You might be a little ADD-ish. Kinda sounds that way, though not too bad if you can work all morning, but the fact that you get up frequently is a good thing. Sitting still for a long time is pretty bad for you. If you get up and stretch your legs every 20 minutes, that's a lot better. Hating what you're doing is a whole 'nother thing. You might need to figure out what you would rather do, and take steps to get there. It would be great if you could arrange your job to be at the computer in the morning and then doing something physical in the afternoon.

I am personally trained (read: computer maniac) to be able to be in front of a monitor all day without "going crazy" whatsoever.
Occasionally, I can't focus, though. Yesterday that was the case. What helps me is taking some theanine.
I took 2 theanine 200mg capsules, swallowed one down and opened the other up and placed it under my tongue for rapid absorption.
Really helps to relax and focus when you need to. Of course, if you have a definite case of AD(H)D there's more effective treatment out there.
I also advice leaning towards natural solutions rather than prescription stimulants.

i think maybe you have a little "adrenal fatigue" as you said you get food coma easily after meals. for more information, you can google about it.
if you are "adrenal fatigut", i recommend you take some pantothenic acid as you can.
it's effective for me to treat my food coma in my experience.
i got tired easily after my meals and must need a nap immediately to relief my tiredness even if i got up lately in weekends.
but after taking pantothenic, the need is not so necessary. I can delay my nap to afternoon and keep awake for some time after the meals.

I don't think he's sick, he just constantly has the urge to do something else, ANYTHING else from the moment he's been in front of his monitor for too long.
Lots of people have this from time to time (during studying anyone?). If you have it *all* the time, though, you might be an AD(H)D sufferer.
