Hi, I am really itching to try a racetam but I can't decide on what to try. I know they vary a lot individually but some of them seem to have more of a profile for certain issues (creativity, memory, etc.) than others.

I have pretty severe depression and I don't want to take anything that would exacerbate it. I've gotten to a point where I'm more stable but one thing I have no control over is my severe anhedonia (loss of pleasure/interest in things) that has really shown very little signs of improvement over the last 6 months. When I was little, I was extremely creative and a great writer, but I haven't been able to do that for several years. It would be great if I could again.

Would anyone suggest a good racetam or nootropic for this? I'm going to order some Alpha-GPC to replace my old choline supplement but other than that I have no current nootropics nor have ever tried one.

Thanks!

I tried most of the racetams and never really got much out of them.  The best nootropic I've found, at least for me, has been uridine. It is subtle but completely cleared my persistent ' brain fog' and gives me very ' clean' mental focus and alertness. I use 250mg of UMP sublingually first thing in the morning and it quickly clears my mind and enhances alertness....makes me feel ready for the day.  There is a big thread on uridine in the brain sub forum.  Sublingual was the key for me.

What brand do you use? It's not a very popular supplement so I've been having trouble finding a vegetarian capsule. Nutritional Yeast used to be a big part of my diet though, but I'm not sure how much I'd have to ingest to get a certain amount of uridine.

I use bulk powder from superior nutraceuticals.  It comes with a little scoop that is about 250mg level. I just dump a scoop under my tongue and it dissolves and absorbs in couple minutes.  I'm on my phone or would post link. There is a link in the big thread in the brain health sub forum which I bumped for you or can post a link tonite.  I have used 2-3 heaping tablespoons of brewers yeast for years for the nutritional benefits but it's just not the same.  I don't get the mental effect from even tablespoons of brewers yeast that I get from 250mg of sublingual UMP.

Thanks, I actually found that site through another link on the forums and was wondering if that was it. Seems like a good place to start.

However, as I said in a previous thread, although not this one, I am suffering from post ECT amnesia and looking to heal my brain. I'm still very interested in racetams for this reason, so if anyone has a suggestion about the best one I could try for depression and anhedonia, please let me know!

Check into noopept. There are a number of threads in the brain health forum.  The mod  'manic racetam' is the local expert on noopept.  I played with it and did have effects but came to the conclusion that dose is critical and it is difficult to measure the 10mg doses with any accuracy....and the original Russian tablets are hard to source and expensive if found.
