Obama somehow couldn't reverse the Bush tax cuts in four years but he could push through unpopular programs like Obamacare, the Stimulus Package and the Bank Bailout.

Obama didn't do the Bank Bailout. Bush did. It's disturbing how many Americans can't seem to get this fact straight, but a lot of people (the GOP/Fox News etc) would prefer that they didn't. Obama didn't reverse the Bush tax cuts because they were going to reverse themselves in 2010, and he wanted as much stimulus as he could get to keep us from falling into a depression after the financial crisis. In fact, he agreed to a two year extension for that reason, which is why they are expiring at the end of 2012.

Obama holds all the cards here, and Boehner is bluffing. I don't care if we go off the "cliff". It would cause a small recession, which we could deal with, and the country would promptly be on the road toward fiscal health. Who the hell elected Grover Norquist god, anyway? Why does he hold such power over Republicans?

Fox News (along with the other 24hr news outlets) holds power over the Republicans. The way I see Grover just took advantage of that fact.

The Democrat seem to be perceived to be holding lofty goals of creating a Gene Roddenberry “Star Trek” style universe where everyone is free of need. While I feel the Dems are more conservative than our Conservative Party here I feel those imagined Democratic Goals are just lofty enough to not be taken seriously.

The republicans on the other hand seem to cling to things they see as realistic. Hence these goals are more measurable and easier to package and use as leverage (like Tax increases). Funny that the Republicans are seen as being the ones “out of touch” with reality.

Why's that funny? Do you think they are more in touch with reality than the Democrats? The Republicans have people running around saying that climate change is a fraud, that women can suppress pregnancy if they're raped, that Obama is Kenyan, that creationism is valid, and that, contrary to evidence, tax cuts create jobs and cause so much growth that they pay for themselves. Last Tuesday, reality came and bit them on the ass.

It's funny because they see themselves as being the realists. Perhaps it's more Ironic?

After the last election they were told to “reinvent themselves”. They seem to have reinvented themselves farther right than the extreme right they already were. I have to wonder how much farther right they can go before they disappear and reappear on the extreme left.

Sometimes I have trouble differentiating between the views of Libertarians and Anarchists.

Well, we are more or less on the same side here but . . . Obama failed to reregulate or hold accountable any banksters. They paid him to leave them alone. Obama "agreed" to a two year extension of tax cuts for the rich when he didn't have to. Before that he didn't do anything to reverse the tax cuts for two years. We'll see if he does anything now or if the "Republicans" won't let him. Cause he really really wants to help poor people, and close Guantanamo and not sign the NDAA and not assassinate people without trials, and not drop drones on innocent civilians, but Republicans won't let him. He probably really wanted to negotiate drug prices to bring health care costs down like every other civilized country does but "Republicans" won't let him. They also made him make the FDA persecute an Amish farmer for selling raw milk instead of cracking down on bad drugs. They made him appoint a former Monsanto executive to head the agriculture department. They made him make the FDA and the Agriculture department do whatever industry wants them to. I guess they are the reason that not one BP executive is in jail over the Gulf oil spill.

Luminosity I’ll give you some reasons for that:

- Obama was fairly inexperienced – He thought it would all be easier than it was (nothing new there in a first term president)
- The US Government is deliberately setup to be broken; to slow change down and give it a chance to mature.
- This setup also makes it susceptible to outside interference – To be fair when it was setup it wasn’t quite that easy to notice the enormous power corporations can develop over time.
- And most importantly, in opinion: Obama is a Center-Right Conservative

You guys don’t have a Liberal party. Our Conservative PM Stephen Harper is pretty similar to Obama. You THINK the Dems are Liberal because the Republicans are soooo far to the right.

How many people identify as conservatives but vote Democrat? I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a large number. This though is a tad scary because that means that a massive portion of your population is Ultra Conservative. Your brand of Ultra Conservative is edging too close to Afghan tribal leader for my comfort.
