Of the medicines that I have taken so far, the most profound and noticeable effect I have had so far has been from combining racetams (specifically oxi and pi) with Zyrtec-D (Pseudoephedrine and Cetirizine).

Zyrtec-D alone does not have the effect

Ordinary Zyrtec (just Cetirizine) with racetams does not have the effect

Obviously, the racetams alone do not create the effect.

So I assume that it is the pseudoephedrine combined with the racetams that creates the reaction.

The effects are as I mentioned in another thread:

Pseudoephedrine (in the form of Zyrtec-D) combined with piracetam is one that you can certainly feel, and I feel even more altered on it than I do on high doses of caffeine (which, to be clear, I have only taken a few times because it has a negative effect on me). It has a paradoxical anti-obsessive, pain relieving, and calming while stimulating effect on me with mild anti-anxiety effects and an almost insignificant effect on attention and motivation. It increases confidence slightly, and I seem to do better on tests while on it, and it almost completely reduces fatigue related to lack of sleep, with the only side effects being dry eyes and mouth. Strangely, I feel like it helps sleep quality, and I fall asleep quicker on it than off it. It is certainly drug-like. It sounds crazy that OTC medicine has such an effect, but when combined with piracetam, it truly turns into a drug. Tolerance also builds quickly (almost full tolerance to a single pill after a few weeks of 1 pill every 12 hrs, and return to baseline tolerance after about a week or sometimes more). There are only mild withdrawal effects which is sleeping for a long time after stopping (I normally sleep about 12-15 hrs on the first day that I stop taking it or if I forget to take it for a night). I am still trying to figure out my romance with it, as the tolerance is expensive and I figure it can't be too good for me to go to almost 500mg per day....

So, I would like to spread awareness of this, and see if anyone else has these effects. I am not usually one to react strongly to nootropics, yet this is a very strong reaction for me. It doesn't solve all problems, especially in the areas of motivation and concentration, and social anxiety is still there enough that I fail to socialize. However, it does significantly increase quality of life. Mood is 10x better on it.

Also, does anyone have speculations for the cause of this? Ephedrine causes release of norepinephrine, so I would assume that this doing something similar, but there is a major contradiction in that it greatly reduces general anxiety and I can sleep very well on it. It is also a bit paradoxical that my BP is a bit low on it (usually about 115/70 which is normal, but a few times even as low as upper 90s/50s which I have never had without it). Since ne is one of the primary suspects in anxiety and high BP, one would assume that the combo would be pro-anxiety and hypertensive, but it is just the opposite. Maybe it is also working in a secondary mode of action to ne when combined with the piracetam.

For those curious as to dosage in case you want to try it, I take one extended release with 800mg piracetam every 12 hrs until tolerance occurs, which happens after a few weeks (after about a week, the effects are far less significant). Then I either discontinue it or crush the pills and switch to swallowing the powder (to destroy the time release mechanism) every 6 or 7 hours. That only prolongs usage for about another week, though, and since you can only buy a certain amount per month and the effects of high/long term doses with this reaction are unknown, I don't think it is good to keep escalating. I have done about 2 cycles of using it, and it is very effective. I would encourage anyone to try it.

Pseudoephedrine definitely operates by releasing norepinephrine, but sometimes it has paradoxical effects. This varies from person to person and sometimes even situation to situation. What happens is you've got combined alpha-1 and -3, alpha-2, and beta-adrenergic stimulation. The alpha-2 stimulation has sympatholytic effects, which causes CNS depression, anxiolysis, and decrease of BP. Alpha-1 and alpha-3 stimulation causes CNS excitement and increase of BP. Beta adrenergic stimulation increases cardiac contraction force, drops BP, and stimulates the CNS.

It's possible that, especially in combination with other psychoactives (like racetams), you might find yourself with confidence and mood elevation, without any difficulty sleeping.
