After suffering two herniated discs in my lower lumbar region I've decided to try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. HBOT has show to increase stem cells eight-fold :

The folowing studies have shown promise but they involve directly implanting the stem cells into the injured area whereas HBOT increases the overall stem cell count throughout the body. But still, I'm hoping the stem cells will find their way to my injured discs and work some magic:

Canine Study:

Two Humans:

My only concern(other than the insane cost of HBOT) are an increase risk of cataracts: People in the following study received 150 HBOT sessions, I'm planning on only 10 HBOT sessions:

http://www.ncbi.nlm..../pubmed/6691953

I'm hoping that there won't be a cataract dilema for me becasue I won't come close to the longterm oxygen exposure level experienced by those in the above study. Even so, downing a few extra supplements prior to HBOT sessions is probably not a bad idea.

Here's my idea of what a somewhat conservative stack might look like:

NAC
C60-oo
pycnogenol

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas on the subject, I'd love to hear them.

BTW moderaters, maybe this could qualify as a longecity study because i have an MRI of the injury, and I'll be taking another one somewhere down the road after completing 10 HBOT sesssions.

You might want to consider acetyl carnosine eye drops, in addition to the stack you mention above. I hope the HBOT works well- it will be interesting to hear your results.

I had my 3rd HBOT session today and I feel pretty energized. I was told that by the third session, the body is pretty well saturated in oxygen. My lower lumbar doesn't feel any different- I still feel the same ebb and flow of discomfort. The technician explained to me that it takes approx 10-12 sessions. He also told me that a top UFC competitor had a similar spinal injury and after 12 sessions felt a significant improvement in his condition.

The technician at the center is a real wiz. I spoke with him at length and I heard some pretty remarkable stories about people who bounced back from what seemed to be untreatable, hopeless health conditions

One middle-aged diabetic woman was told by her doctor that her feet and hands had to be amputated or she would die. After 150 sessions of HBOT, she fully recovered and has full use of her hands and feet.

What bugs me a little about HBOT is that no one can really pinpoint the mechanism of action. It could be the increase in stem cells, or the high leverl of oxygenated blood plasma, or a combination of the two, and now I'm wondering if increased levels of IGF-1 has any part to play in this picture:

Those eye drops are a good idea though, slipped my mind, actually. I have a 1/4 full bottle in the fridge but it's expired. I'll see if I can pick up a bottle before my next HBOT session.
