The last Issue (special issue : c't Hacks) of the German Computer Magazin c't had an article about "Biohacking" and, more or less, how to start doing it at home.

What do you think about doing Research, or learing about Biology in your Garage/Kitchen?

Biohacking groups are becoming increasingly common, one that I visit is the London Biohackers which are based in the London Hackspace. They are currently participating in the iGem competition and will probably also be collaborating with a team from UCL. Most biohackers come from a scientific background and have jobs related to bioscience. Obviously there are limitations to what can be achieved in the biohacker lab, this is both because of expenses and regulatory hurdles. That is why maintaining good relationship and collaborating with nearby universities can be very helpful.
