I'm referring to supplements in pill and powder form for the most part (although I can think of some liquids that would qualify)....things that you go out of your way to take in and not just eating/drinking healthy. Also, I'm talking about how many individual supplements, not how many of each (ex: green tea extract three times per day still only counts once).

I imagine I'm in the middle of the road at 46. It would be great if we could all write out which supplements we take and compare, but I imagine the space/time required would be too great.

Looking back at the poll, I didn't really give you a good choice if you are taking exactly 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, or 125. Sorry.

Heh. More then I feel like counting.

Let's just say a whole shelf in my pantry is mostly filled with supps I'm presently taking (there are extra bottles of some in the back).

Would most be from each item in a multivitamin? I can't imagine, say, 125+ separate bottles that you take out every so often to make batches of dailys. That's just a lot of bottles. A lot. Yes, a whole lot of bottles. many.

liplex....I'm struggling with this a lot lately. Not nearly at 125 bottles yet, but it's getting rediculous and trying to come up with a system that isn't too time consuming and complex is definately challenging. Personally, I've decided to spend the extra $$$ on good formulations like Ortho core, mind and bone which are 25 caps between the three but there are still several dozen other compounds I've encorporated and this weekend I'm gonna get an irrigation parts box and set it up and distribute stuff into various boxes so that I'll only have to do this every couple weeks and will be better able to manage my inventory.

However, even with this it's complex... I now have 5 or 6 sublinguals, several PEG liquids as well as powders such as MSM, condritin, glucosomine, blah blah blah blah blah.....

My crew (we create gardens) are always amazed as I bring out my jug-0-pills and begin slammin um during lunch....6 or 7 at a time for a minute or two...

However, as I've continued adding and modifying my regimine I continue to feel better, think clearer, and my overall effectiveness as a human being grows...so I figure it's worth it.

I think it's really a shame that no research is being done on folks taking this approach... the combined effect of all the stuff I'm doing isn't being studied.... which I feel is a shame.

I take roughly 110 pills daily. I divide them into three dosages. I have a plastic container designed for storing screws/nails that I got from Lowe's, that has 48 little containers. So, once every 48 days I spend 30 minutes refilling it with all of my morning pills, so that I'm not opening each bottle daily. I do this for for nighttime pills, too. (My mid day pills is only 15 bottles, so I just handle them as is.)

I always take my pills on the way to work in the morning, by scooping them into a little plastic baggie, and downing them with a bottle of green/white tea from www.teastea.com. Takes about five minutes.

This system also allows me to program certain pills to be taken on even days and some on odd days.

Supplements certainly some are better absorbed with food and Vit e is only absorbed with fat. No way you do not know this. Comments?

Also, do you take your IP6 with the rest of your supplements or seperate during the day?

I mix IP-6 powder in my protein powder, which I use twice a day, once in my shake, and once in my oalmeal.

I take my supplements right after my morning shake. And yes, I always take all of my fat pills and fat-soluble supplements together.

I'm genuinely curious, how and why do you some of you take over 100 supps a day? Were talking individually bottled/packaged supps, right? So you're not counting 20 for your multi?

I think I'm at about 10.

With my current finances, 0-5 is the most I can afford. If money wasn't an object, I'd be taking upwards of a hundred.

Among other things, I have always wanted to take up growing herbs as a hobby.

I usually take the following as a soon to be 50 year old (please it can't be true)

Acai Ultra - 3 caps (Crayhon Research)
Four Pillars Multi - 4 capsules (Pharmax)
Vitamin D3 2,000 IU's (Biotics Research drops)
GPC - 1,200 mg (Crayhon)
PS Omega 3 Synergy (Crayhon)
Vitamin C - 1,000 mg (Nature's Way)
B-Complex (Nature's Way)

I've been in and out of the supplement industry since 1983 and have become painfully aware of who makes good stuff and who makes crap. Some of the claims some of the companies make are so absurd they are laughable. I've been involved in producing as well as designing a number of supplements over the years and learned a lot of lessons that guide my own selection of nutritients. Also, I've had to use that knowledge to developa supplement regime to help my daughter who has a rare form of epilepsy.

Four Pillars Multi - 4 capsules (Pharmax)
...

The anti-oxidant capsule seems to be pretty lightweight, the amounts of all of these ingredients seem really small:

ANTIOXIDANT Capsule Contains:
# Alpha lipoic acid.......40mg
# CoQ10.......20mg
# N-acetyl cysteine 80mg
# Beta-carotene (freeze dried).......5mg
# Lycopene (freeze dried).......1.5mg
# Lutein (freeze dried).......1.5mg
# Natural mixed carotenoids.......150mcg
# Ellagic acid.......7mg
# Green tea extract.......20mg
(providing 12mg polyphenols and 8mg catechins)
# Grapeskin extract.......7mg
# Quercetin.......20mg
# Soy isoflavones (providing 2mg isoflavones).......5mg
# Pine bark extract.......3mg
# Bilberry extract (Vaccinium myrtillus).......20mg
# Mixed berry extract.......100mg
(blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, blackcherry)
(equivalent to antioxidant content of 25g fresh fruit)
# Watercress (freeze dried).......20mg

Does the Acai Ultra add more meaningful amounts of antioxidants? I couldn't really find a description other than "OptiAcai® Acai Fruit (Euterpe oleracea) 400 mg".

OptiAcai provides an ORAC of around 1024 per gram. I take three a day so I get about 1200-1300 ORAC from that alone. The information comes from an article in the Journal of Food and Agriculture (my brother was the lead author).

>>> OptiAcai provides an ORAC of around 1024 per gram.

Is there anything especially healthful about Acai other than its relatively high ORAC value?

The point I'm getting at is that ORAC value alone, IMO, is not a good enough reason to supplement. Super cheap sorghum grain, for example, has an ORAC value of 2400 per gram, but I've not seen any study showing that it has a uniquely beneficial biological effect, like many other antioxidants (pomegranate, green tea, blueberry, IP-6, etc.) Wolf berry is another one with a very high ORAC value, yet so far no unique health benefit that I've seen.

While eating high ORAC food is smart, I don't think it's necessary to further supplement based on ORAC values alone.

The most supplements i've taken was around 30. Now i'm down to 5. This year i'm trying to obtain everything through food, green smoothie, salads and trail mix for snacks.

my basic 5:

Vitamin D3 - 2400 IU
Fish oil - 1000 mg
Alcar - 1000 mg - will probably drop after i finish the powder.
NaRALA - 150 mg
Epicor (diamond x vpc) - seems to help with cold/allergies and sleep

whey and creatine - for workout days.

There are couple threads about it, use the search function or look at the 'regimes' section of the forum.
