Tackling high estrogen in men

I have all the sides of high estrogen especially when I was a teen; oily skin, acne, short, greasy hair, fat deposits, father had prostate, thyroid cancer.  Life improved tenfold since I made drastic lifestyle changes like bodybuilding, strict dieting, going outside.  Part of me believes I have high testosterone, but high estrogen as well.

 

I still have sides of estrogen although now mildly reduces.  And I did register an apportionment to get my blood work done sometime next month.

 

Has anyone tackled this issue?  I'm worried it might be difficult now as the doc will assume I'm roiding (even though I'm considering it in the near future) and won't prescribe me an aromatase inhibitor.  I do want to approach this issue legally and under supervision.  At the same time, I might not even be a candidate anymore because I solved the issue through strict dieting, exercise, and supplementation.

 

On the topic of estrogen dominance:

Is supplementing NAC a solution?  

 

Any comments?

Letrozole. Get the connections and/or money to get it legally.

Well, I would really wait for the results first.  I think this is an issue that is oversold in some circles.  If there turns out to be a problem, which is unlikely, arimidex is a milder aromatase inhibitor that is more commonly used in men than letrozole, which can very easily drive estrogen too low, which is also very unhealthy.

Abstract

 

Recent studies have implicated elevated levels of serum estradiol in males as the major predisposing factor for myocardial infarction, with serum cholesterol playing a secondary role. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of a high-complex-carbohydrate, low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and daily exercise on levels of serum estradiol, testosterone, and lipids in males. Twenty-one males participating in the Pritikin Longevity Center 26-day residential program volunteered for the study. During the program, serum estradiol levels were significantly reduced from 47.2 +/- 4.6 to 23.8 +/- 2.5 pg/ml (mean +/- SE) whereas serum testosterone levels were unchanged (5.1 +/- 0.3 versus 5.1 +/- 0.2 ng/ml). Total serum cholesterol levels were reduced from 229 +/- 9 to 181 +/- 7 mg/dl whereas triglyceride levels were reduced from 301 +/- 66 to 151 +/- 13 mg/dl. High-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels fell from 41 +/- 3 to 35 +/- 1 mg/dl whereas the ratio of total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol was unchanged (5.5 +/- 0.4 versus 5.1 +/- 0.3).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As you can see from the study, switching people from the meat-based western-type diet to a diet based on grains, beans, potatoes, fruits and vegetables reduced the estrogen levels by 49%. Reduced cholesterol by 20% and reduced triglycerides by 49%.

 

 

Its the high-fat western-diet that causes high estrogen concentrations. High fat foods also contain high levels of chemicals that mimic estrogen as well.

It's also the increased consumption of soy and soy products that are in nearly every packaged food and in sauces/condiments. Soy mimics estrogen and inhibits DHT. Many americans have lower DHT levels than in other countries, then again, there's a lot that have over the top high DHT levels as well.

Definitely look into letrozole after bloodwork, as another user has suggested.

Yes, the oil (linoleic-acid) in soybeans and soybean oil does inhibit 5-alpha-reductase [1]. Most polyunsaturated-fat does seem to lower androgen levels, and when you look at the largest dietary-change that has taken place in America in the past 100 years... it is the intake of polyunsaturated vegetable-oils, used mostly in fried-foods and processed-food, but also found in the fat of animals fed corn and soybean meal.

Is soy proven to inhibit DHT definitely? Isn't low DHT in men desirable in combating hair loss? I know some of the research brought up speaks to that, but the research has been very mixed across the board. misterE, I'd be really curious to hear your input about a paper I posted in the Ageless section, in which estrogens are questioned in ways that have muddled my whole take on this. Whether or not there is any truth to it doesn't matter, so much as the ways in which the internet has allowed to skew different perception in multiple directions, for the worse, really. Soy, and it's positive and negative properties, remains very ambiguous to me, as it stands, for as unfortunate as that sounds.

Both the isoflavones and the linoleic-acid displace androgens from their transport-protein (SHBG). As far as MPB, I think DHT plays a small role, while insulin-sensitivity plays a much larger role.

Both the isoflavones and the linoleic-acid displace androgens from their transport-protein (SHBG). As far as MPB, I think DHT plays a small role, while insulin-sensitivity plays a much larger role.

Soy and Pea protein are also the two proteins most likely to cause excito toxicity or to amplify the effects of MSG; leading to massive overtsimulation. Soy mimics estrogen and inhibits DHT at the receptor level, as well as enzymatic level.
