Ashwagandha used to make me feel a bit better, but now when I take it it seems to make me extremely fatigued over a period of three days or so. My endurance is lower, I have brain fog, I feel apathetic and lethargic  and gets so bad that I have to stop after about a week. I've tried a few different brands (mainly Himalaya) and the same thing happens with all of them. I've been trying to figure this out but don't have any ideas.

Maybe it's a sign I have something else wrong with me. Anyone had experiences like this or have any ideas of how to troubleshoot this or what the cause could be?

How much are you dosing? I've felt apathetic and lethargic when I dosed 3x a day for a couple of weeks of 450mg with 4.5% withanolides.

Ashwagandha can stimulate thyroid hormone production according to examine http://examine.com/s...a/#summary12-4  with one case report of ashwagandha related hyperthyroidism.

It can also effect the immune system so If your suffering from some autoimmune disorder it might make it worse.

Your dosage looks fine to me unless the co2 extraction yields a high quantity of some very active withanolide. I'm taking the NOW brand.

I've been taking 600mg (10% withanolides)/day for 4 weeks now and feeling great. Maybe it's your diet?

Ashwagandha effectively reduces cortisol levels, perhaps too much in your case.

Could also be he's over tuning his GABA system and / or Cholinergic system - both of which Ashwagandha increases the activity of, low cortisol shouldn't be an issue - and from my experience low cortisol doesn't cause fatigue unless there is overall adrenal fatigue to go with it (and thus deceased adrenaline production).

If you over tune the GABA and / or Cholinergic Systems - it can result in mental acuity but with no motivation to apply it with - and also dopamine depletion or sympathetic nervous system outflow becomes decreased.

Not good, keep an eye on that and lower the dosage - maybe eat more nuts, and chicken to re-balance the symp.
