Does anyone know people over 50 who do not need reading glasses? And if so, is this just good genes or lifestyle? Lots of sites on longsightedness claim everyone eventually needs the specs if they're not going to hold a book at arm's length.

I am 60 years old, and stopped wearing glasses about 5 years ago (I wore glasses since the age of 12). Now, I only occasionally put them on when I'm at the movies/cinema (sometimes it's not necessary) and will wear them if I am at a play or event, and the action is far away.

I stopped wearing prescription sunglasses and now wear only regular, non-prescription sunglasses--very convenient.

For years and years, I was very nearsighted; I could easily read anything up close, but needed glasses for anything else. I started taking serious supplementation about 7 years ago--including lutein and lycopene--and I believe that definitely helped (although age itself brings changes anyway).

Lastly, I am extremely lucky in that one eye, my left, is naturally nearsighted, and the other, the right, is naturally farsighted--but I never have to think about it at all, the brain does all the processing, and live/work/read without glasses. Very lucky indeed!
