I suffer from fibromyalgia and CFS. A while back I attempted to do the methylation protocol using methyl b12 and methyl folate. I experienced an initial feeling of warmth and euphoria for a couple of days and all my aches and pains disappeared and I had much energy. I thought I had at last discovered the cure to  my condition.  Then I started feeling sick with very painful points in my scalp, back and rib cage and my neck got painful and stiff along with sinus pain. My fibromyalgia flared up with tender points getting worse. I tried to isolate the problem and discovered that both supplements wee causing the reaction with B12 more so. I experimented with different brands and different forms like hydroxy-cobalamin, hydroxo-cobalimin, cyano-cobalamin, etc but they all produce the same reaction.  I tried taking tiny dosages of B12 but again after a few days the bad effect builds up. Interestingly adenosylcobalamin did not produce any reactions, nor did regular folic acid, although I did not experiment with these very long.

I am hoping that someone can shed some light on these negative reactions. I am aware of the former Dr. Carl Pfeiffer recommending against B12 and folate for histadelia and I am wondering if what I experienced was a build up of histamine.

Thanks

Here's my theory. Reviving the methylation cycle activates the "SAMe switch" which allows homocysteine to be converted to cysteine and then to glutathione. (If methylation is gummed up, the body assumes that methionine intake is low and thus tries to avoid letting it leak out of the cycle.) With glutathione restored, the extracellular matrix turns back to sol from the gel state and releases toxins that have been stored away in anticipation of the day when the body has enough glutathione to detox them. So you might be getting detox reactions.

Lisa Petrison and others have found that detoxing goes better when there's no mold toxins nearby. One technique is to go the godforsaken wilderness for some time to unmask yourself so that once back in civilization you can detect when you're in the presence of what you're reacting to. She calls it the "depression response".

Standard folic acid doesn't cause this effect. I think it's because folic acid requires DHF reductase to be activated, and peroxynitrite (high in CFS and FM) degrades DHF reductase. Methyl folate is on the other side of that enzyme so it works in everyone.
