The book Life Extension seen to have a praise for it and it has various uses as well but gets a bad rap by some. It is available as a supplement. It is said that BHT is great for herpes among other things. It is a preservative as well. I'm still looking for more details about BHT and its possible benefits and risk. I believe I have seen this as an ingredient perhaps as a preservative. I just can't recall which product it was.

On the left of the page click on topic search, then google site search; type in BHT and you will find plenty of info and users of BHT on this site.

It used to be in everything. Pringles Potato Chips had tons of it back in the day. Once it was known to be an effective antiviral it was removed from foods.

I believe I used to see BHT in ingredients back in the day but haven't seen them since. Pringles may have been one of the products I've seen. No wonder why expiration dates seem faster now than it was before since BHT is taken out. It was used as preservative after all. Now everything expires in a month compared to a few months to a year like then (?). This means you'd have to eat your junk foods faster before it expires which is probably why there is an obesity epidemic. Anyone know of a product with BHT these days?

regarding BHT use for herpes, does anyone here know about cat's claw being used for STDs? I've read its use by native tribes and it is said to be effective. It may have been cat nip but I'm sure it was cat's claw.

Unless you are suffering from one of the virii that BHT is good at exposing to your immune system or serious issues with lipid peroxidation; this is not the type of thing you will feel anything from.

If you already take EVCO which has a very similar effect on lipid coated virii (and some bacteria) the chances are even less that you will notice anything.

Also BHT s a powerful CYP3A4 agonist: Piperine is a CYP3A4 antagonist and is added to Curcumin etc. to stop it being cleared from ones system to fast. ie: BHT will make a good number of supps ineffective and that could make people who take said supps feel slightly worse. Or negate any effects you may 'feel' from BHT.

The upregulation of CYP3A4 is actually an issue: BHT has a long half life. (7 days if I remember correctly) So when would one take the stuff without making a large part of or stacks ineffective?

So if I were to take BHT all my supplement that I will be taking with it for the day will be deemed useless? Does this mean true with taking a curcumin supplement as well? I've thought of getting some curcumin but would a cayenne supplement be just as good?

Not all.  I know Curcumin has bad bioavailability and that what does get into your system is quickly cleared by the liver.
downregulating CYP3A4 with piperine is a eans to slow this clearance.
Now BHT increases CYP3A4 so it will increase the rate at which Curcumin is cleared.

I think Reseveratrol is another substance that works as above, but doubt that anything in a multi-vit is.
You will have to research this to know which substances are and which aren't.

NB: BHT is metabolised differently in humans to mice etc. Less is excreted.
This also needs further study.
