I have a couple of people close to me that have serious health issues.  I'm posting them in separate topics because they're different sorts of issues.

I have a 70-year-old male friend that had a stroke about a year ago.  The doctors did what they could to fix him up, but he has really lost a lot of mental capacity fast.

I suggested that perhaps his B vitamin levels should be checked, since the doc found that his D levels were very low.  The B level was right around 300.  The doctor suggested supplementing D and B12.  The D perked him up a bit.  So did adding more water to his daily intake.  I think the B12 will make him clearer in his mind, but stroke damage left for a year?  It's unlikely to really get back to where he was before the stroke now.

I think that maybe the following things might help.

Lion’s Mane
B12 sublingual
Acetyl L-Carnitine
Acetyl L-Carnitine Arginate
Ashwangadha
Gotu Kola
1-7 hr/day exposure for 7 days to a 50 Hz/1 mT ELFEF
Curcumin (but there is a problem with absorption.  I suspect that's why cooking with turmeric in oil is desirable.)

I've ordered Lion's Mane extract from Fungi Perfecti.  I wonder if I should also add some sort of dried Lion's Mane product with it?

He's taking the B12 sublinguals.

I think that a mix of the two carnitines and ashwangadha could be helpful, especially with Lion's Mane.  Getting him to take that many capsules a day will be a trick.

This is not medical advice and I'm not a doctor.

Have you thought about cerebrolysin? I would do the following:

- Cerebrolysin.

- Regular exercise (stroll in / near nature in sunlight)

- Take him to a group activity for seniors (dancing especially.)

- Galantamine (from relentless improvement.)

Hi Ben,

Those are good suggestions, but the drugs are things that are injectable and need a prescription.  He's in a point where he's not taking any meds right now in a waiting state.  If things don't improve with the B12 sublingual, or other "safe" supplements, his wife will seek prescription treatment.

I also pointed out to his wife that if *his* Vitamin D and B12 were really low, then likely hers was as well since they eat the same things and are inside a lot.

I was thinking that a combination of Lion's Mane, Ashwagandha, and Acetyl-L-Carnitine/Acetyl-L-Carnitine Arginate might be helpful.

I did see the articles about exposure to 50 Hz for a few hours a day.  I have no idea if that's even remotely useful.

Piracetam, MCT oil, HBOT (if he can afford it), some combination of niacin, niacinamide, and NR, probably lots more...

Just btw in regards of Piracetam

Its just what I´ve found, I dont know what to think of that even for my own usage.

I would rather use the sensoril brand of Aswaghanda, because it seems to dont have any anticoagulant effects.

You dont have to give him Vitamin D if he gets enough sunlight

i.e. 10 min Sunlight = 10,000 u.i. Vitamin D3. But I´m not sure. Shouldnt be hard to find the Info´s

B12 ..shrug.. Havent heard any overwhelming of this.

But why not here and then.

I know at least that Your body can store it for ~ 721 days, IIRC

Also: Shouldnt be hard to find the Info´s

Fishoil and lecithin or Phosphatidyl serine. Better cycle the latter and dont overdose it, because of the blood thinning effects ( via Platelet factor 1or 3 !?)

I wouldnt overdose Fishoil as well. Better not too much ( above 1gram), but stable. At least on the long run.

IF he´s not on bloodthinners e.g. Ashwagandha !

Therefore talk with Your/ His Doc about any interactions.

Ashwagandha can also alter the heart rhythm i.e. settle it ( sounds actually good, but You never know)

Common food supplement fights degenerative brain disorders, study suggests

Perhaps 9-me-bc !?

7,8-Dihydroxyflavone

7,8-dihydroxyflavone, a small-molecule TrkB agonist, reverses memory deficits and BACE1 elevation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21900882

http://www.longecity...hydroxyflavone/

But I know nothing about any interactions of 9-me and 7,8 DHF with any Meds, Supplements or each other.

Edit:

I dont want to be responsible for anything.

So, therefore recheck those infos and claims, if You are interrested.

Definitely fish oil and lecithin as those are brain-building raw materials.

Also add micro-dose Lithium (5mg) as that can stimulate brain growth markedly.
