Hi.

The daily recommended amount of carnitine is 1-3 grams a day.

100 grams of pork (about 3,5 ounces) contains 27,7 mg of carnitine.

Taking carnitine by supplements gave me a stuffed nose.

Any suggestions on how I can reach the recommended amount of 1-3 grams a day?

There is no daily requirement for carnitine.  This paper goes into great detail on the topic. 1-3 grams is the dose of supplemental carnitine that can be used for various pharmacological effects.  If you want the advantages of supplemental carnitine, you can also get it from acetyl carnitine.  The stuffy nose effect is pretty weird-  Are you sure that it wasn't caused by something else?

I am pretty sure that it wasn't caused by something else.

It says here too that a side effect of carnitine is a stuffy nose: http://www.ehow.com/...lcarnitine.html

Well, if you are getting a stuffy nose from carnitine, you can either cut back the dose, switch to ALCAR, or just drop it altogether.   My personal choice is ALCAR, 500mg twice a day.   I don't see a need for more than that, unless maybe for the elderly.  Young people may or may not benefit from supplemental carnitines.

If ALCAR is not a choice and regular carnitine gives me a stuffy nose, what other alternatives do I have?

Also, is it safe for 25 year old to use carnitine?

Exactly five: 1) Propionyl-L-Carnitine, 2) a beef steak, 3) regular L-carnitine plus a pack of handkerchiefs, 4) buying into Hazen's TMAO theory and avoiding all carnitine like the plague or, 5) not buying into Hazen's theory but still do without supplemental carnitine.

No, for a 24 or 26 year old it would be fine, but 25 just happens to be a critical age at which one should not take any carnitine.

(Sorry, couldn't resist ;))
