Hi guys. I made a thread about this before, trying to figure out what is causing my eyelid twitches. I cut out all the ones I thought might have caused it for a month (piracetam, kava, noopept and phenibut) and the twitching did not relent at all. It is pretty much a constant twitch in my right lower eyelid that starts in the morning and keeps going until I fall asleep. It is not painful in any way, but it is incredibly annoying---think of a child repeatedly poking the right side of your eyeball all day. Here is what I am currently taking (potassium I added because someone suggested it might reduce eye twitching). I want to note that most of these supplements are new ones that I started to take after the eye twitching started---except for zinc, magnesium, and fish oil.

Morning:

  • Magnesium glycinate 400mg
  • Fish oil 1000mg
  • Chelated zinc 25mg
  • Folate 800mcg

Evening

  • L-Citrulline 750mg
  • D3 1000iu
  • Potassium citrate 99mg
  • B-12 500 mcg
  • L-Histadine 500mg

Occasional use (1-2 times a week or less)

  • Kava
  • Piracetam
  • Noopept
  • Phenibut

If you guys have any supplements to suggest, I will give them a try. This twitching is driving me nuts.

You don't tell us the rest of your diet/lifestyle, drug use, etc.

I'd cut out caffeine and sugar.  Taking a B vitamin supplement would be a good idea.  Don't eat too much junk food.

Don't know what all of your supplements are.

I see you've got Folate and B-12 in your stack, but the rest of the B-Complex family is missing.

I don't have personal experience with this, but a quick google around seems to indicate B-Complex as a popular recommendation for this type of twitching problem.  B-Complex is cheap and safe, so this is where I would start.  B-Complex does have folic acid though...  Is your "folate" folic acid?  Or a different type.  I've read you don't want more than 800mcg max of folic acid in your day (stack + food).  Folic acid fortification of food has also increased recently due to the neural tube issues with pregnancies.  I've cut back my supplemental FA to 400mcg/day.

The only time I've had transient eye twitches that bothered me was when I was under a tremendous amount of stress...  Don't know if you've got anything like this going on, but thought I'd throw this in.  Got rid of the stress & my twitching vanished.

Hey Nils,

I was wondering if you had thought about trying a psychological approach to end the twitching?

Is that 400 mg of magnesium glycinate, or 400 mg of actual magnesium?

Maybe you're not getting enough magnesium? Low magnesium levels are, supposedly, one cause of twitching eye muscles.

I suppose you should really visit the doctor for a check up.

I have had the eyelid twitching before, the cause was quite simply emotional stress (not to confuse with physical or neurochemical). Try decreasing serotonin precursors (do you take melatonin or 5-htp?) and increasing catecholamine precursors (l-dopa, tyrosine, phenylalanine) in your diet. More magnesium is often a good idea anyway. Maybe if you consume more stimulants it will decrease emotional problems? Tea/coffee is a pretty bad idea imho, try something more 'sophisticated'. Green tea is especially bad in increasing eyelid twitching. Pure caffeine doesn't do as much. Definitively try to deprive yourself of serotonin precursors, it is worth a shot.

Stress = eyelid twitch... Piracetam and caffeine/stims seemed to aggravate the issue with me, Noopept I would imagine may as well. Ashwaganda and Theanine helped relieve me of that damn twitch.
