When I first started taking piracetam it made me sleepy and gave me really bad brain fog (even though I was also taking an appropriate amount of choline). I stuck with it for about 5 days before brainfog became so bad that I quit. I loaded up on extra choline and a couple days later the fog disappeared. Lithium orotate also helped me with brain fog.

Months later, I went to a psychiatrist and he said I'm probably bipolar, was prescribed lamictal. After a month on 50mg lamictal I decided to try piracetam again. It no longer makes me sleepy and seems to improve focus.

I've read several other experiences where people have had trouble with piracetam making them feel stupid and tired, which makes me wonder if we all share brain chemistry similarities. I'm guessing it has something to do with lamictal and lithium reducing the release of glutimate. Others have reported that intake of glutimate "activated" piracetam for them. I've always received plenty of glutimate from protein powder, but this didn't seem to make a difference.
