Is their any explanation for this? Like I posted previously, it seems as if my ADD symptoms have vanishied since upping the Luvox and it's seemingly getting better everyday. Maybe my ADD was never ADD in the first place? You name the stim, I took it and it didn't help. Could it be a paradoxical effect? (I hope that's the right word) I think of Medevil and how stimulants help with his OCD, well it seems as if a SSRI (Luvox only) helps with my ADD/OCD. It's not just with focus either I'm way more patient and my thinking process is clearer, I'm actually thinking more thoughts, in a good way.

This brings me to my next thought, is anything truly a fact in the medical community when it comes to mental illnesses, like ADD and OCD or Depression and Social Anxiety or Schizophrenia? I guess it truly does depend on a persons physical/mental make-up. What works for some doesn't work for others and vice versa.

Thoughts?

Why not, it makes total sense. Sensitivity and ADHD/anxiety is often the same thing. Its all to do with how much frontal cortex function you have, but frontal cortex fights agaisnt the noise that comes from the rest of the brain and makes decisions based on that data.

in ADHD and anxiety, it can either be due to the rest of the brain being too noisy or the prefrontal cortex being too weak. This explains why both stimulants and deprssants work to combat ADHD and anxiety, because its about balance. Some body could actually have great prefrontal cortex, but an even noisier brain like in the case of high functioning autistic people, leading to ADHD and anxiety like symptoms.

SSRIs like luvox basically lower your your sensitivity, the noise in your brain. This is a core mechanism behind SSRI's and why they are anxiolyti, the increase in SSRI's forces less random firing of neurons leading the brain to be more calm, serotonin is a calming agent in the brain. It tones your brain down.

Its also no accident the same people also find relief in alchohol and other depressants, because they also "quiet" down the brain, this leads them to feel like their executive function has improved, and the things in their brain and their decisions seem more clear whilst without actually improving the firing of the prefrontal cortex at all. It's also why mixing the two is so ridiculously addictive for illegal drug addicts like speedballing (cocaine with heroin).

ignorance is bliss, the mind is truly happy when its "quiet". Sometimes I wish I could switch off at will.

I would imagine also that OCD thoughts can be very distracting.

It's like your brain forces you to think the same shit over and over again. With that out of the way the mind is clearer.

I've experienced that anyway

the ocd thing isnt just thoughts but seems to be senses and emotions too

I have to also add that prozac and lexapro had no effect on my ADD or OCD. I was thinking about the doses I was on a high dose when taking those also, lexapro 30-40mg Prozac 60-80. So it is true that it might take a few tries to find the medicine that works for you. Stimulants I tried =

Dex-Methyphenidate, Focalin 15mg

Methyphenidate, Daytranna 10-20mg

Amphetamine mixed Salts, Adderall 5mg-20mg

(None of these INCLUDING Adderall DID NOTHING!)

Anti-Depressants=

Lexapro 30mg-40mg

Prozac 60-80mg

(These two did nothing for OCD or my ADD)

Antispychotics=

Abilify 5-30mg

Latuda (not sure of dose)

(Did nothing for delusional thinking or auditory hallucinations)

My current meds

Luvox 300mg

Klonopin .25mg

Risperdal 4mg

Medicine really is trial and error so don't lose hope!

I thought SSRI's were well known for their effects on OCD? In fact, my first prescribed box of escitalopram read: anti-depression, anti-anxiety, and "anti-obessional." As for the ADD, Major Legend said it perfectly, the serotonin calms down the brain. I find that I'm able to think better while on an SSRI. Because there's less noise, less distracting anxiety. Have you been officially diagnosed with ADD? I wouldn't think true ADD would be cured simply with an SSRI. Like MajorLegend said, real ADD seems to be the result of an under-active prefrontal cortex, hence why stimulants are prescribed.

Yeah I was officially diagnosed by an ADD specialist and it wasn't just "I can't focus" "Oh you must have ADD" I took the CPT (conners continuous performance test) and it came back I believe 56% or 65% chance of ADD. I'm finding with Luvox, exercise and diet that with these I feel so much better overall. My anhedionia is gone. I got in the car yesterday and was able to experience so much around me usually I would just look straight ahead and be in my head unaware of things around me. I was able to feel the cool breeze of the wind and the rays of sunshine things before that I never noticed "fully" or took pleasure in. Even as I'm typing this I feel great. This "feeling" is not a high it's just a greater sense of well being. I didn't experience this previously before upping the luvox to 300mg. It's not hypo-mania, my thoughts aren't racing I just am happy. You know before I thought the dosage doesn't matter and the anti-depressant doesn't matter but through this I've come to find that each ant-depressant is different. What may work for one may not work for the other. some may only need 150mg of Luvox some may need 300mg and this would I believe go for all meds not just Luvox. So my biggest point that I'm trying to get at is this, Don't lose hope!

If ocd relates to shizo, like a mini shizo with only when negative symption then stimulants will work, otherwise ssris or nmda antagonists like memantine, 5ht2a agonists work too.

I personally love luvox, i improve on a daily basis, it seems to slowly reverse shizo wich is what sigma agonists are supposed to do.

Hi Medievil,

I'm not sure why you always seem to relate schizo disorders to other disorders, as if their origins or symptoms are similar. Schizophrenia, and even schizoid personality, are far, far different from OCD symptoms. I don't think it's wise to compare the two. They are separate things. There is no correlation between OCD and schizophrenia. i think OCD relates more to Tourettes than anything else.

In fact, I think schizo-related symptoms are nearly opposite of OCD-related symptoms. OCD causes rigidity, extremely narrowed thinking. Schizo-whatever causes not rigidity or narrow thinking, but permeability and, in it's healthy expressions, creativity and open-minded thinking. Very different.

I'm noticing also that music sounds SO MUCH BETTER! I think it's anhedionia related (it's gottten better/gone) I feel alive! And like I stated above it's not a high feeling I just feel better and am able to exeperience more. On another topic who likes calvin harris?! This is another example it seems as if I'm able to sit still longer, usually before when I would listen to high tempo music I would get up and dance I still want to but am able to control it. It's like the hyperactivity part of my ADHD has gotten better also.

Med! I hope all is well! I see your trying Luvox, It's helped me a lot, but I will say it didn't help or I guess I couldn't see the effects till I upped the dose to 300mg. For you 150mg might work. Don't lose hope! It's worked good for my ADD and or negative schizo symptoms. Also check your diet and get exercise and do some mindfulness. I'm nol perfect in diet or exercise or mindfulness meaning I don't do them daily but I can tell a difference when I do them and do them consistently. Man I feel AWESOME!!! I wasn't feeling like this an hour ago the difference I think was that I went outside (the suns out), so getting out is also very important! I hope you or someone uses these tips. Sunlight truly does make a difference!

I think I might just spend the rest of my day outside we don't have to many more days till winter so. I'm testing the sunlight out to see what type of changes it makes in my mood/cognition. Videogames/staying inside the house make me feel foggy and depressed. Might have to supplement with vitamin D3 this winter if their is any change.Fish OILZ as funk would say lol. Anyone talk to kassem lately?

Well I'd definitely like to hear what you mean by that, because that's interesting! I've never heard of them relating. So does that mean David Beckham has latent schizophrenia? Maybe schizoid personalities relate to obsessive-compulsive personalities (those without the acute OCD  and who feel compelled to constantly work hard, do the right thing, make correct decisions, etc.) because both suppress emotions and spontaneous feelings - but the reasons why each personality type does this is much different!

I have a script, but i've read it makes caffeine half-life much longer in the body and is not as effective with nicotine together. I need to quit caffeine and nicotine before treatment then? :/
