New from Microsoft - a "smart band" featuring 24-hour HR monitoring, built-in GPS and - get this - a UV sensor providing a real time UV Index reading.

Where is the real time UV sensor? From the page you posted it seems like it just tells you the current UV index, something smartphones right now with access to the internet can do as well.

If you scroll down to the tech specs, you'll see a list of sensors onboard the device:

Optical heart rate sensor

3-axis accelerometer/gyro

Gyrometer

GPS

Ambient light sensor

Skin temperature sensor

UV sensor

Capacitive sensor

Galvanic skin response

Microphone

Perhaps my use of the phrase "real time" was an embellishment/exaggeration (you'll forgive my enthusiasm, I hope)... it's not clear if the device produces a continuous (is that the right word?) measure of the UV index, or if you have to invoke the sensor manually when you want a reading.

You said "UV Index reading". If correct this would be UVB only which imo is kind of a waste.

UVB is affected by weather and time of year so it's not exactly necessary to know what the reading is in real-time if one has spent a little time checking the index and UVB ratings throughout the year. Now UVA is something I'd love to see in a device. If it could detect UVA I'd buy that thing in a heart beat.

As it stands I might just stick to stickers and beads.

Early feedback says the band is noticably heavy. Not something you can forget you are wearing. :/
