A smart phone, a milliliter of blood, and some inexpensive equipment could find your cancer before you have symtpoms. This has been science fiction for a while now, but this novel combination of off-the-shelf technologies may change that. According to one of its inventors, the device is working now for some particular forms of cancer. The challenge, of course, will be to obtain enough good statistics to make an accurate diagnosis. (That, and getting it FDA approved, so look to other countries which are more serious about cancer research for first clinical use.)
