I am interested in these dermarollers but at the same time also worried about safety and hygiene.

Many of the cheap ones are made in China. What if they are contaminated with bacteria or viruses?

And since they are made of plastic can you even use medical disinfectants which contain alcohol to clean them?

You needed to be able to use stuff on them which kills bacteria and viruses to be really safe.

What I also read is that needles longer than 0.2 mm are too dangerous. But many of the rollers have much longer needles.

The longer the needles the more damage you cause to the skin. This seems risky to me. But 0.2mm on the other hand might

not be effective enough. It's really tricky.

If only yourself is using the roller, and that is the way it should ALWAYS be, you need not worry about safety and hygiene as long as you take a few simple measures. Yes many are made in China, look around, most everything you own is made there. :)  Hell I recently bought a shotgun made in China that's better built than the famous Remington 87O...but that's another story. They are never contaminated, they come in a sealed wrapper that is very secure. I've rolled for over 3 years and I use alcohol to clean mine. I just let it soak for at least 30 minutes. Before that I clean it with warm water with a toothbrush and some liquid soap.

What you read is dead wrong. Rollers longer than 0.02 mm are perfectly safe. I used to roll my face with a 2.0mm roller with no issues. I did have to use numbing cream. I currently use a 0.75mm roller on my face/neck/hands. I assume you read this link I posted in another thread.  https://www.facebook...doc.setterfield

I follow his protocol. Good rollers (from China) can be had on ebay for around 4-5 dollars shipped free.

Hello,

and does this stuff really work for you? I mean do you really lock younger or does the skin become firmer? I have rather saggy skin which sucks.

And do you disinfect the skin after each rolling procedure? If yes, what do you use? Something with alcohol?

And how much pressure do you need? I mean do you really have to cause damage to the skin (bleeding) for it to be effective?

And why do you soak the roller for 30 minutes in alcohol? I have a medical disinfection spray which kills bacteria and viruses in 3 minutes or so.

My concern is that since the thing is mostly made of plastic exposure to alcohol should be as short as possible.

I roll because I believe in the science behind it. I've seen a couple of acne scars greatly improve with the use of rolling and a single needle.

My skin looked great way before I ever started rolling. I have great skin genes and do many other things to keep my skin in top shape. I just got thru rolling with a 0.3mm roller 30 minutes ago. Gonna apply my vitamin C serum after my skin calms down some.

I do wipe my skin with alcohol before my medical (longer) rolls. I cleanse and use a toner before that.

You just need to use normal pressure. Your not pushing the roller against your skin with great force. You do NOT have to draw any blood to receive results. I usually get some pinpoint bleeding at certain areas when I use longer rollers but nothing major. Almost never with the shorter needles. There are some crazy ass videos on Youtube where the persons whole face is a bloody mess. No wonder people are scared of this procedure...

Your medical disinfection spray would work just fine. Many people do that.

Thanks.

I also heard that some people use the rolling in order to bring substances in skin creams deeper into the skin but I'm not sure if this is really safe.

After all the skin is a barrier for protection. What if the cream contains things which rather should not enter the skin but due to the rolling they are not

able to get into the skin?

I've not read of people having any real issues with what they roll. People roll vitamin C serums, retin-a, various serums and oils. Dr. Setterfield recommends only rolling Hyaluronic acid after medical rolls. But you have to remember he is a doctor and trains many others working in a clinical setting and he wants to be very sure there are no issues with the client after rolling. HA is very safe. That does not mean the person at home rolling can only use HA after deep rolls.

For medical rolls, I'm only interested in what the dermaroller is doing for my skin. Not what I apply after it is doing. If that makes any sense. I just apply a good oil after rolling. Emu oil is my favorite.

I only recently was aware that cosmetic rolls could also enhance collagen. I always thought before that it was mainly the product penetration that was important.
