What are some good nootropics from suffering a stroke?

One that would promote nerve-growth and such .

You can name alot of different ones or link me threads .

I know Nootept etc Ive heard can be good, But wouldnt that only be temporary? I guess the things you learn during your stroke while under the effect of the nootropic would help in your relearning lost abitlites .

Also whats the big deal with strokes that the first 2 months is so important for a full recover ?

Why is the first months so big deal? Shouldnt you be able to learn it whenever as long as your focused on recovery etc .

Best of way the more people link the better!

Thx!

The period of time is crucial because what is left of existing neuronal networks need to be stimulated or reactivated or they stop working. You pretty much have a a system of neurons that is a giant network. When many cells in this system die, parts of it become atrophied. By using parts of the brain and trying to stimulate it, as quickly as possible, the stronger surviving neuronal pathways are reinforced and the greater the possibility of keeping existing connections.

Neuropeptides like cerebrolysin and semax show efficacy for stroke.

That's probably your best bet. Uridine & DHA should also help.

"400mg of phenylpiracetam daily for the course of a year in persons who suffered from a stroke was able to improve recovery on both functional and cognitive parameters (assessed by Barthel, Lindmark, Scandinavian, Merton and Sutto rating scales) relative to placebo." from a Russian 2010 human study. Coluracetam could be taken right after stroke as it helps the brain deal with overexcess glutamate from all the dead neurons. Then, I guess Centrophenoxine?

Look into chinese meds.

They are by far underestimated by the Nootrpoics community.

No prob but the list is actually long.

Ok this is a good example because genes are altered toward brain protection among other effects:

http://www.ncbi.nlm....les/PMC3925003/

Angelica increases two very interresting markers (oct4 and Sox2) that are actually used in the research google them if You want

n-Butylidenephthalide (BP) Maintains Stem Cell Pluripotency by Activating Jak2/Stat3 Pathway and Increases the Efficiency of iPS Cells Generation

n-Butylidenephthalide (BP), an Angelica sinensis extract, triggers the up-regulation of Oct4 and Sox2 gene expression levels in MEF cells.

Polygala tenufolia, as mentioned above:

You can here take a further look

http://www.ncbi.nlm....e herb stroke

and in Hindawi, which offers many free articles.

Altough I cant say anything about the reputablility.

Bioactives and Traditional Herbal Medicine for the Treatment of Cardiovascular/Cerebrovascular Diseases

Comparison of Two Old Phytochemicals versus Two Newly Researched Plant-Derived Compounds: Potential for Brain and Other Relevant Ailments

http://www.hindawi.c...am/2014/682717/

I You want to search here, then search better via google, like this:

stroke site:www.hindawi.com

One little thing: If You are interrested, dont mix them careless up !

Many of them do thinn the blood via different mechanisms e.g.

-> anticoagulant like warfarin, so too much can/could cause bleedings

-> thrombocyte aggregation (like aspirine, too much is not dangerous) and so on.

so by overdosing a mixture of them You could get inner bleeding which could cause a stroke by its self (afaik).

I cant suggest You much in those regards.

You would be lucky if You find a reliable source like a herbalist or Doctor for an advice.

Otherwise do it like I do:

1. look how long each effect needs to reverse and take then the other herb:

e.g. anticoagulant -> 2 weeks

thrombocyte aggregation -> 8-11 days

2. get informed by several sites instead of one.

the one suggests 30 grams as a maxium daily intake, the other 6 grams.

Heres a little hope if You or someone arround You has suffered from stroke:

Also, curcumin and gingko biloba to be added in for long-term use, obviously these aren't ideal for right after a stroke, FW900's recommendation is correct.

I don't have a source handy, but I've seen CDP-Choline suggested after a stroke.

Thank you all so much for all information, This is really valuable and will look into it and research!

Thank you all for taking the time to write all these suggestions!

Nobody answered my questions regarding Noopept tho, If it is simply a upgraded version of Piracetam?

Oh and is it important to take these nootropics straight after the stroke has happened or is it alright to take it lets say a year after the stroke has took place?

CDP-choline;Citicoline, it's a valuable tool for receptor expression altering, such as with dopamine and cholinergic neurons. Although, I think there are certainly better options out there!
