I find Melatonin is very dose dependent in effect.. but the dose varies a lot from person to person.. I've learned to find mine.

If I take a larger dosage, I go into a heavy sleep for a bit then wake in the middle of the night (3am or so) and feel dizzy, uncomfortable, irritable (for me this could be as low as 3mg-4mg)

If I take a dose that is smaller I don't fall asleep very easily and also feel a different kind of irritable, usually I end up falling asleep late and waking up not feeling rested (for me this is 1mg or less).

Watch out that caffeine half life can be more than six hours.. so if you drink coffee end of day it will also affect you later when you are trying to sleep.
