Hi

Having reduced my coffee intake - until my next test of IOP - from 5-6 cups a day to 1 cup a day, I "need" (at the moment) an energy drink at the end of the working day.

Case is that I am not particularly fond of the energy drinks available. They are either full of sugar, or contains aspartame, which sets me up for high levels of glycation, or possible brain cancer.

This link, as shown in another post, links caffeine and taurine combined with reduced IOP.

Are the any complications in mixing my own energy drink as follows:

1) 1 bottle of non sweetened carbonated water,

2) Crush some 200mg caffeine tables

3) Empty a couple of 500 mg taurine capsules

4) Add some Stevia

Comments?

No, they should be safe. You could also look into other stuff like high dose L-tyrosine which would really give an extra kick to the the stimulant effect of caffeine. Most of the better energy drinks actually contain additional nootropics and supplements like L-tyrosine, CDP-Choline, Vitamin B6/B12 etc. on top of the caffeine and taurine. You can even add in some Choline And Racetams on top but they are very bitter so I guess its just how much you can tolerate in the taste department.

No problem but two comments:

Careful about over-doing taurine. Probably fine for the most part but most GABA agonists use day-in-day-out will downregulate GABA receptors.

Known to agonize GABA receptors:

and you should probably figure out why you "need" an energy drink...look into food sensitivities, exercise, and possibily quitting caffeine (sometimes caffeine makes me crash really hard for the rest of the day if I do it, purely anecdotal)

Yeah, making your own energy drinks is fun. But don’t go opening taurine caps. You can buy a kilogram of the stuff from PureBULK for 32 bucks. You can buy citric acid in bulk at your local ethnic market to give it a citrus taste. Add a drop of methylene blue to give it some color and turbocharge your mitochondria. Use glucose instead of sucrose for the sweetener. I buy it in 50-pound bags from brewery supply houses.

What proportions do you use when mixing, Heisenburger?

Guarana gives quite a good kick, taste good and already contains quite a bit of things.

In Brazil you can buy from street vendors guarana, coffee, honey, propolis and ice mixed in the blender that will make feel alive even a mummy. :)
