The sidebar is disappearing as soon as I go into thread view.

I only see the sidebar when clicking on Forum/Active Topics. Is this a feature of the new design?

Yep, I can't see the Forum/Active Topics link anymore.

Also, I don't like that the upper menu is allways visible, even if I scroll the page down. It's annoying.

I can't write accented characters in the Spanish forum. Maybe it's due to the new layout? Strangely, I can write them here: áéíóú.

Edit: Now I can write them. It suddenly changed while I was writing a post.

I have the same problem again with accented characters, this time in the entire forum.

Wouldn't it be possible to modify a separate copy of the forum software, make sure it has basic functionality, and then let users beta test it? We're always trying to get users, but I fear that making the forums frustrating to use while they're "under construction" is driving users away.

Great updating.

Important to fast load esp where links eg videos are on the thread!

I can't find the recent topics.  I value this site but the constant losses of needed features as well as other negative changes are a problem.   This is maybe the fifth time I'm asking for needed features to be put back.  Less change is better.

Without the Recent Topics option, I find this site entirely unusable.

I'll come back in a month to see if it's back -- setting calendar reminder now...

Thank you.  Wasn't it just there before?  That would be better, if it was just there and you didn't have to search it out.

Caliban, I don't mean to be rude but if you are the one behind the constant changes, could you step down from making decisions about the forum?  Each time it is redone, we use many standard features, like active topics. In the past we also lost  blog view counts, or blog view counts would count our own visits to our blogs as visitors, or search engines would be counted as visitors.  Many other standard settings had to be painfully redone, if at all.  This has happened at least five times in the two or three years I have been here.  The complicated reward system is only understood by one person at best.  I'm on record about the feedback system.  The upheavals are exhausting and unfair to people here.

Recent topics is under the "search" item, same place where it has been for the past 2 years in the sidebar menu.

Perhaps I'm just missing it, but I don't seem to have a "search" item.  Where should I be looking?   The Recent Topics that rwac put under "Forum" has gone away.

I don't have a sidebar menu, but in the top menu there is a "More" item that contains the "Search" item that contains "Recent topics" and other stuff.

I prefer it under "Forum" and that the menu don't stay on the screen when scrolling down. Why don't you create a poll about the new layout's features?

Assuming that Antonio is talking about the mobile version, perhaps the search tab could be moved into the primary list of tabs in that version, given its importance to many users.

One problem that remains is the amount of "pre-scrolling" that is done.  Now that the top bar overlays the text below, the initial position of the text needs to be moved down enough to clear the bar.

Another issue I recently encountered is the length of titles in PMs.  This seems to have gotten shorter.

It isn't the mobile version. This is what I see: http://postimg.org/image/ao50mfy1z/

Hmm.  That's weird.  On the version I'm using, the "Join" item is a submenu of "SupportUs", and where you have "More", I have "Search".   You might have an earlier iteration of the code.  Maybe if you clear your cache and/or restart your computer it would update?  rwac, caliban, any idea what's going on with Antonio's version?

Right now I don't see a sidebar menu.  In white against a dark blue background I see ".org"  "Portal"  "Forum"  "Blogs"  "SupportUs" etc.   Looking under those topics doesn't seem to reveal the "Recent Topics."

Before this recent change there was no problem finding the "Recent Topics."  I don't know where it is right now except for the link rwac provided.  Please this feature back like it was.  Not the same now.  Each time you rearrange things, you cause problems which are then denied.

I use an Apple.

Mmm I cleaned the cache and refreshed the page. "Search" appeared briefly in the place of "More", but then it reverted to "More". The rest of the bar was the same than before ("Join" outside "SupportUS", etc.). Actually, this happens allways I refresh the page, whether I clean the cache or not and whether I use a proxy or not (I usually use privoxy).

Recent topics (under the right hand side three-bar menu) never works the first time you click on it - it returns no topics.  You have to reopen the menu and click on it again to get the list of topics.

"Full Version" is completely unusable on iPad now-- before, it was fine. Mobile version was rather useless even before. Now, with an iPad, the top command bar is missing, and email option covered by "Testing New Format" icon.

There's no "Recent Topics" option anywhere on the screen or anyway to get to a Search pull down menu to find it.

How about just putting it back the way it was?

I see no improvements that justify any new format, and leaving it broken like this for days is just frustrating ... unless that's what you want.

BTW, what is the purpose of the change of layout?
