Why are salted nuts more expensive than unsalted nuts? It's a mystery to me.

Surely adding salt requires some cost? Or is it a preservative effect that saves money?

Salt isn't much of a preservative for nuts and other seeds because they will still go rancid just as fast when the fats inside the seeds oxidize.

The salt adds a very small cost for the producer, but probably commands a price premium because the salt adds real flavor over a comparable unsalted choice.

Actually, I was trying heroically to ask why salted nuts are cheaper. They often are.

*Sigh*. Does saying the opposite of what you really mean inhibit MTOR? Ha

No, it doesn't. I mean, yes it does... (Actually, you have found out the secret behind women's longevity advantage )

Why is whole wheat flour much more expensive than refined flour? lt's all a matter of supply and demand. There's a much bigger demand for refined flour or for salted nuts, hence they are sold in larger quantities and less expensive, despite requiring additional processing.

Because they are altering the factory processes when they exclude a common ingredient, which seems to be a cost to the manufacturer.

I guess......
