safe to take together?

alcar alpha gpc acetylcholine overload

Hi guys. I've been trying ALCAR and alpha gpc over the past 6 months aND each one individually has had its effects but I never considered taking them together because of risk of acetylcholine overload. Then I started taking alpha gpc at nights because I have heard it could be effective that way. Then I tried alpha gpc with an ALCAR dosing and I felt amazing for about a week that way. Later I started to have a dampened mood with irritability, and I wondered if this was acetylcholine overload. I guess what I'm asking is: is it safe to take ALCAR and alpha gpc together long term? (

To be clear I'm taking;
300mg alpha gpc at night time
500 MG ALCAR in mornings

Also I was wondering if any of you have had success taking ALCAR or alpha gpc over a significant period of time. (6 months or so)

Depression and irritability are the hallmarks of acetylcholine overload. Choline stays in your body a long time, so you'll need to reduce your dosage if you intend to take choline supplements long-term. I would recommend alternating your ALCAR and alpha gpc, or taking them intermittently. I've been using CDP choline for several years now, and while I used to take it every day, now I prefer to take it more like once a week, whenever I need my memory to be at its best.

the only reasons I wantdd to take either long term is because of the effects they have on me in other ways. Alpha gpc seems to help drastically with social anxiety, and ALCAR with mental energy and clarity.

Do you think it is realistic to take 300mg alpha gpc daily or 500mg ALCAR daily long term? (Obviously not together) and the acetylcholine overload I may have, does it "cool off?" as in should I just wait for acetylcholine to die down?

Also would DHA fish oil apply here?(Because it may increase acetylcholine)

For me, it would not be realistic to take any choline supplement longer than 2 months without a break. You seem to have different physiology in that you're able to tolerate more choline. But since you're showing signs of acetylcholine overload, I think it's a good idea to reduce your intake for a few weeks so you can level out. With any supplement that you choose to take on a daily basis, the benefits will completely disappear after years of use. 

 

As long as you're taking the recommended amount of DHA, I wouldn't worry about its effects on acetylcholine.
