Hi all.

Many thanks for all of the information you guys have shared which I have successfully implemented to improve my health in the past few years. This site is invaluable and it's a shame that the wisdom within isn't more widely accepted and practiced.

I'm hoping someone could enlighten me on a reply that I received in relation to my concerns on a readily accessible Australian product (Bioglan Multigreens), particularly what I consider to be its excessive Vitamin D dosage. The product contains 1mg(40,000iu's) Vit D2 per recommended 10 gram serve.

The following copy/paste is my exchange with Bioglan. I genuinely do not understand their reasoning(I'm a social worker!) and, if they are correct, could someone please inform me so. If not, I will contact the Australian TGA with my concerns. Many thanks:

Myself

Hello. I have a genuine concern in relation to the quantity of Vitamin D2 present in your "Multigreens" product. The 1mg per serve is the equivalent of 40,000 iu's and, with regular use, could potentially pose serious health complications (e.g., arterial calcification). Is this a label misprint?

Furthermore, I would like to be informed of how your beta-carotene is sourced. This product contains a very large dose and synthetically sourced beta-carotene has been associated with disease states in certain populations. Is the beta-carotene naturally or synthetically derived?

I have been a consumer of your company for many years and hold your innovative product line in high regard. I would, however, appreciate a considered response to my above concerns. Many thanks.

Response

Thank you for your email.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I have passed your feedback onto our brand manager.

Vitamin D2: the strength of Ergocalciferol used in the formulation is 100,000IU/g. And since the input is 0.1mg/gram [= 1mg/10g serve]  the final amount of Vitamin D2/serve is 100IU, which is in a safe limit.

Beta-carotene: the strength of Beta carotene is 30%. And since the input is 32mg, the final amount of beta-carotene is 9.6mg which is equal to 1.6mg RE which is in the safe limit. Also, beta-carotene is synthetic.

There is no safety concern with this formulation.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
