I was interested in Reactive Oxygen Species and gray hair, as I have seen reversal of gray hair from my consumption of C60.

Apparently graying is caused by H2O2 in the follicles, in turn caused by decreased catalase and methionine sulfoxide reductase A and B protein expression

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/19237503

So we have decreased catalase and decreased metalloprotein reductase (Meth-Sulf=O) leading to higher levels of ROS, at least in the hair follicle.

Then I did a search for increased catalase, which led me here:

Effect of the Lycium barbarum polysaccharides on age-related oxidative stress in aged mice.

"Result showed that increased endogenous lipid peroxidation, and decreased antioxidant activities, as assessed by superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total antioxidant capacity (TAOC), and immune function were observed in aged mice and restored to normal levels in the polysaccharides-treated groups."

http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/17224253

So -- Goji - in vivo in geriatric mice raises many endogenous antioxidants including catalase, SOD, and GSH-Px -- so far so good , what about in humans??

Lycium barbarum (goji) juice improves in vivo antioxidant biomarkers in serum of healthy adults.

"The study population included 50 Chinese healthy adults aged 55 to 72 years. In vivo antioxidant markers, consisting of serum levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and lipid peroxidation (indicated by decreased levels of malondialdehyde, MDA) were examined preintervention and postintervention with GoChi or placebo (120 mL/d). In the GoChi group, antioxidant markers significantly increased by 8.4% for SOD and 9.9% for GSH-Px between the preintervention and postintervention measurements, whereas MDA were significantly decreased by 8.7%. In addition, the SOD, GSH-Px, and MDA levels in the GoChi group were significantly different from those in the placebo group at the postintervention time point, with increases of 8.1% and 9.0% and a decrease of 6.0%, respectively."

- apparently LBPs from Goji cause in vivo increases of SOD, and GSH-Px in healthy human adults, and a decrease in MDA (maybe it increases catalase as well?)

I plan to definitely add Goji supplementation in the form of powdered (by me) organic dried goji fruit to my use of C60OO.

Thoughts?

Thanks Sensei, there were a lot of hits you saved me from weeding through the marketing crap. Nothing against anyone who works in marketing (2 drink minimum) :)

I use a small electric coffee grinder to powder it.

You may find this thread to be of value: http://www.longecity...nting-catalase/

As I posted there about Purslane,

"catalase and superoxide dismutase activity, increased significantly in all examined organs. The increase in catalase was by 15.7, 79.8 and 50% respectively, in liver, kidney and testes..."

http://www.academicj...Dkhil et al.pdf

I'm currently taking Goji juice, Purslane powder, and Aroniaberry capsules along will my small doses of c60-oo.

How much purslane powder are you taking?

At 1.5 ml per kilogram aqueous solution at 1:5 w/v -- I get 120 ml for 80 kilos.

That equals ~ 24 grams purslane to 120ml water

I'm still experimenting the dosage, but slowly working my way up over time. (around 5 grams a day at present)  The oxalic acid content does concern me a bit.

IIRC dunking whole fresh Purslane it in boiling water before eating it gets rid of a lot of the oxalates.
This wont work for you as you have bought powdered Purslane.
(I still dont understand why you would pay for something you weed out the garden?)

The other option is to eat it with yogurt as something or other in the yogurt binds with and neutralises the oxalates.
This is what I like doing as I its actually pretty nice.

The fresh stuff is also nice in salads with a mildly salty taste.

I took advantage of the bulksupplements deal where you post a review and get a free product of your choosing after the initial purchase.

Thanks for the tips. The powdered purslane ended up tasting really great as an iced tea. Surprisingly refreshing, and I didn't even add anything to it. Soon, I will have some growing and will add it to salads and spaghetti.

Been taking them both (among other things) for years now. Still have some gray hair. Can't claim any effect from C60 and/or goji, or anything else.
