Wouldn't one get more nutrients by just eating the whole tea leaves?

You would also get all the heavy metals that the teaplant sucks out of the ground and you would not get whatever content in the leaves that require heat to be extracted or activated, unless you drank boiling water.

So to increase the benefits of green tea - just eat the leaves and wash them down with a boiling water.

Well, I mean ECCG helps build more brain cells which basically means "Neurogenesis" which occurs when you do exercise such as walking every day. I know this is true, my memory is wayyyy better now, and I used to have a sucky memory in the past.

Also it's anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, repairs sun damage and of course it lowers inflammation which damages your body.. i'm sure theres a lot of anti-aging epigenetic changes tea does.

Do not underestimate the power of tea, Don't dooo it!

Is that not a good enough point to drink tea every day? You decide

Recommendations: Drink white tea, Roobios tea, black tea daily. You'll thank me in 6 months.

How about Green Tea?

White tea is from immature green tea leaves.  White tea has higher antioxidant content and lower levels of fluoride/metals.

This thread cracks me up.

You could brew tea, then eat the leaves after.  I do this with gyokuro sometimes.

All Tea (whites, blacks, greens, oolongs, puerhs) comes from the same plant species: camellia sinensis.  Rooibos is not tea; it is an "herbal tea" or tisane.  The thread is about tea, so let's stick with camellia sinensis.

I work in the "specialty" coffee and tea trade.  Years before I joined this line of work, I was buying teas directly from farms or from friends that traveled to origin.

Drinking tea, and not too much, is good for you in general.  Explore different teas from Taiwan, Japan, China, India, and Sri Lanka.  Find what teas you like and then try to source them from farms or vendors that supply teas that are high quality, from farmers that use chemicals responsibly, and that are grown in areas that are further away from polluting cities and factories, . You can feel safe eating the leaves every so often then too!

Enjoy your tea!

It's calming and relaxing, why else? The nice mild dose of Theanine mixed in with milk and sugar after work and before bed, why would you not drink it??? Being British maybe I'm biased, but we built an empire whilst drinking tea and alcohol (two GABAergics) to calm the nerves. One has to ask the question what would it have happened if we'd have drunk stimulating black tea instead?!

I have personally thought of growing some Camellia sinensis since the climate here is about mild enough for it (just got to watch out for frost on the young leaves, but that's easy in a garden setting). An idea actual has been to start a medicinal herb garden full of things useful to me such as Rhodiola, Siberian ginseng, hops, tea, etc.. but many require specific environments to contain the useful stuff or are hard to process or slow growing. But it's an idea still, just in case anything I need ever gets taken away.

I have always enjoyed tea.  Started drinking black tea, green tea and herbal tea for the health benefits but have come to enjoy the ritual. It's relaxing and a moment to slow things down. Had to stop drinking green tea as it seems to bring on headaches and nausea.  Has anyone else experienced this? I have to limit foods with tyrosine due to migraines and did not expect green tea to be added to this list.

I don't know about tea in general but I know about why I drink Rooibos and Tulsu tea.

The former increases endogenous SOD levels. The latter blocks Cortisol for 8-10 hours, and both are good to increase your metabolic advantage.
