I was wondering if herbal Island Brand is a quality brand? They are a family owned business now based in Utah. Everything seems to be organic/kosher, I’m just wondering if this is a legitimate company and if they sell potent supplements.

If the supplement uses mycelium, I'd avoid it. Lots of them are. Even paul stammet's does mycelium in his supplements

It says Ganoderma lucidium Organic, the whole mushroom tops only.

From what I've read, that's a good sign. I just started delving into the wonderful world of mushrooms so I'm nowhere near an expert. But if I were buying some, I'd only buy whole shrooms. No mycelium. There are different techniques manufacturers use to process the mushrooms but that is an area I'm not extremely familiar with yet.

whats your problem with mycelium? you just admited not being an expert and yet you sound so confendent in saying you would avoid mycelium for whatever reason unspecified as of yet. if you check some studies, mycelium seems usually more bioactive than fruiting bodies.

The bulk of studies are on fruiting body extracts. For mycelium studies these are primarily liquid fermentation mycelium which is 100% pure mycelium.

Most mycelium products (anything made in the USA) are mycelium on grain. This is very different from pure mycelium. Testing has shown them to be very high in starch and low in active compounds.

What's your intended purpose? It's pretty tough to inoculate wood.

If you're growing to fruiting body then use some type of hard wood. I think the Chinese use spawn plugs on the logs for inoculation. Similar for Shiitake.
