For many years it seemed to have been an old wives myth but I do find that in 2013 an article came out claiming that onion juice produces catalase so it could reverse grey hair.

You don't find too many reviews because many people dont like the idea of doing it but is it worth it?

Here is one paper claiming onion juice works, and another ranking a large number of treatments. These are primarily for hair restoration, not for color.

Intriguingly, methylsulfonylmethane is a biomarker of onion intake, and has been used to increase stable ascorbate (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate) effectiveness in aloplecia. Unfortunately, this study didn't investigate whether MSM was having an effect independent from the MAP.

Winning H et al. 2009. An exploratory NMR nutri-metabonomic investigation reveals dimethyl sulfone as a dietary biomarker for onion intakeAnalyst134(11), 2344-2351.

Shanmugam S. 2009. The effect of methylsulfonylmethane on hair growth promotion of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate for the treatment of alopecia.

Edit: sorry, this again addresses hair loss rather than grey.

Interestingly, onion juice can dramatically enhance testosterone levels in rats (apparently by as much as 300%), but testosterone is not a cure for gray hair. The internet sources claiming color restoration for onion juice first point to scientific papers showing its utility in reversing hair loss, then make vague references to "herbalists in the fifteenth century," or to some confused theory that hair is being bleached by endogenous hydrogen peroxide. Looking through the comments on one site claiming this, I found that no one had experienced color restoration. Even the author of the article said in the comments section that it didn't work for her.

I can recall an Iranian study that touted onion juice as a testosterone enhancer, but seriously who wants to chug glasses of raw onion juice-- besides, who's going to kiss anyone who's been chugging raw onions?

The Life Extension Foundation had a Forum which has been (quite shamefully I must say) shut down recently, hosting one of the longest thread on the internet on the topic "How to reverse grey hairs". Despite I asked they rejected to leave the Forum as a repository of research. There was an "old Forum" with a section on the same topic which looks still accessible here, maybe you can find some useful information:

I would love to find something effective, I might be re-considering GliSODin but have no evidence it can work.

Someone in this thread was suggesting that iron overload is a cause of greying hair:

I seem to have recently been greying very quickly despite having ferritin levels below the low end of the lab range.

could also be copper and/or other various heavy metals and toxins, like mercury, arsenic etc.

The key is to add SOD and catalase topically, I wonder if topical MSM could help as well if in that case.
