Okay, I drank the koolaid and believe that deprenyl is a fantastic anti-aging tool due to its ability to increase SOD.  And that is the only reason that I want to start taking it.  I just got my order in for 5 mg tabs and want to start taking 1.25 mg/day asap.  And I am in my mid 50's as any fyi.

However, I have a couple of last minute concerns that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with:

1.  I have occasionally had a bit of prehypertension.  I believe I am over that now but has low dose deprenyl increased blood pressue in anyone out there?  Have you heard of this being a concern?

2.  I am currently taking 3 mg of Cialis per day?  Is there anything to worry about in this regard?  I didn't see any interaction here but just wanted to check.

3.  Also, a point of confusion if you don't mind:  this is an MAO-A inhibitor right at low doses?  Don't MAO inhibitors have sexual side effects sometimes?  That's not something I want, especially since it's irreversible and might take several weeks to bounce back.

Any help is much appreciated.

Selegiline often decreases blood pressure, but you could have a paradoxical effect and get increased blood pressure. Just keep your eye on it. I don't think it will interact with Cialis, though a quick Google search reveals that a combination of selegiline and cialis could lower blood pressure and cause other side effects: http://www.drugs.com...-2051-4723.html

No, Selegiline is not a significant MAO-A inhibitor at low doses. At oral doses of 10 mg and below, Selegiline is a selective MAO-B inhibitor, thus it does not share the typical MAOI side effects. Actually, with regards to sexual function, Selegiline has been found to improve libido.

Great!  Okay, that's comforting.  Yeah, it has a few dopamine metabolites, right?  Which can help some with sexual function?

Didn't have any impact on my libido. I would advise watching your caffiene/stimulant consumption as selegeline enhances it's effects.

Thanks for the heads up.  I definitely have ample caffeine.

Hey, one other Deprenyl question and this is a weird one:

I take nutritional yeast for health purposes.  Do I need to worry about tyramine and deprenyl if it's low dose?  This seems like it would be a non-issue for my situation?

Rasagiline has less impact on blood pressure (less lowering) than selegiline.

Especially with moderate to bigger amounts of tyamine, even low doses can cause some sort of discomfort. Nothing terrible but effect could be there, especially when taking orally as opposed to sublingual. Depends on how you prefer to administer; I've never been a fan of subl absorption.

Never even heard of it.  Thx.

Noted.  So can I ask why you don't like sublingual absorption out of curiosity?

I like the idea of oral deprenyl for a variety of reasons btw.

I tend to get better results when taking drugs orally. Might be placebo/in my head, though.

Okay, I just boldly took about 0.6 mg.  Going to proceed very slowly.  I just took it with food and that is supposed to increase absorption peaks by 3-4 times. I'm not sure how much that really matters, because the primary side effects probably occur from the irreversible enzyme binding.

Starting low is wise.  Selegelline effects seem to amplify over time for me to the point where I have to take breaks from it. It very quickly takes me from a depressed state to darn near freaking out in about 10 days of 1mg/day.  Some dose this 2-3 times per week, but my comfort level is around 1mg/week.  Good luck.

Yeah, I think I'm pretty sensitive to it.  Basically I'm going to do a 1 mg every other day.  If you think about it, it kind of makes sense that it builds, because it's irreversible and it takes awhile for the enzymes to build back up - I guess a few weeks from what I have heard.  So I'm in no rush!
