Myo-Inositol: Short-term Memory Loss

I have used Swanson myo-inostiol on and off for several years before tapering off a month ago. With high dosages of myo-inostiol (12-24g) I’ve noticed a marked increase in feelings of calmness, which helped to keep me cool, calm and collected. I was able to mitigate the onset of panic and keep my breathing and heart rate under control. Suffering from panic disorder and social anxiety I often ingested 18 grams which would completely rid of any intrusive, obsessive thoughts that would most often than not lead to severe panic episodes in public places. These high dosages were taken whenever I felt it was necessary.

 

However, I have started to ingest 3.5 grams morning and night for the past week, which has triggered brain fog as well as impaired my short term memory. A few years ago I use to smoke marijuana, which as we all know high THC strains can impair an individuals short-term memory, however this is nothing compared to the impairment I am experiencing with inositol. I’m unable to remember things I did 2 minutes ago, it is unbearable. I’ll turn off a light and forget that I turned it off a few seconds later. It’s bizarre because super loading inositol is required for any neurological effects. When I use to super load sporadically, I did not experience any of the negative side effects, maybe it’s cumulative?

I think it's cumulative. But personally I get this effect event with a single gram dosage at least a little bit. Fortunately it's seems to be completely reversible after stopping. Which I did. 

 

Try different thinks for calmness: Niacinamide, Methyl B12, Sam-E, Phosphatidylserine.

I have tried nacinamide as well as picamilon both felt stimulating in higher dosages. Methyl B12 and Sam-E did nothing for my panic. Have yet to try phosphatidylserine.

Try Magnolia Bark and Lemon Balm from Swanson's.  

 

In my case Ashwagandha was also helpful, but more long term.

Nevertheless, few in vivo studies have examined the role of myo-inositol in DS.
 
 
CONCLUSIONS:
Adults with DS have a significantly increased brain concentration of myo-inositol, and this is associated with reduced cognitive ability. Future studies are required to relate myo-inositol concentration in people with DS to brain development and increased risk for developing Alzheimer disease.

Interesting.

 

I did not take myo-inositol today or last night and my memory is already getting better.

 

I also forgot to say that I have been taking the inositol with 5-10g of creatine a day and the day that I just took creatine was a very positive, happy day for me. I’m not sure why but creatine really boosts my cognitive function and motivates me. 

 

I think I’m just going to stick with creatine, vitamin D and that’s it. I feel a lot better off my stack.

I would say this is down to decreased testosterone, myo-inositol will decrease levels of free testosterone.

I only have the study for women here which also shows overall testosterone decreasing as well

I can also confirm through my own experimentation that I experienced a significant reduction in libido and aggression when taking Inositol.

 

A little bit of Inositol is fine you can get that from your diet, If you are looking to supplement I recommend Inositol for women and Zinc for men. Don't take Zinc on an empty stomach and do not exceed its RDA since it is a metal.

I cared a lot less too but I wasn't callous I was caring and understanding. Dopamine is very hard to increase through supplements I have searched for an efficient way to do so but there isn't any safe way to do it, when I took L-Tyrosine for example I would get anxious and aggressive and I could not understand why,  this was probably due to the fact that dopamine sometimes just converts to norepnephrine and epinephrine. Increasing dopamine can also be bad it can also increase addictive behaviours.

 

Short term I think the best substance I took for overall cognition was Sertraline but its side effects are high especially when you increase the dose past 50mg, short term it is great but not long term, nature does everything better than we do, food is the best way to do it because it comes with all the synergistic vitamins and minerals, the chemical reactions are incredibly complex, if you want the best overall support for neurotransmitter look into the Mediterranean Diet and build upon that, add high intensity weight training also and make sure you socialise and have fun with friends.

Can’t uridine up-regulate dopamine receptors? I agree with you that weight training and socializing will help significantly, so I try to do them often.

Can’t uridine up-regulate dopamine receptors? I agree with you that weight training and socializing will help significantly, so I try to do them often.  

 

 

According to literature yes it can, I had no success with it myself. If you suffer from memory loss check every avenue, mine was caused by sleep apnoea amongst other things, if you find yourself tired during the day a lot with the memory issue then look into a sleep study.
