We are accepting applications for an MRC-funded PhD studentship available for start in the autumn of 2016. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious student to study and characterize new compounds with life-extending, health-preserving and neuroprotective effects that may be suitable for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Our lab has recently identified several novel life-extending drugs. In this project, we aim to further study these compounds for lifespan and healthspan effects in worm models of neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, this is a collaborative project with researchers in Newcastle and Sheffield, and studies in mammalian cells will be performed to assay for potential effects relevant to humans. The exact direction of this project and methods to be used, however, will be adapted to fit the research interests and background of the student.

The deadline for applications will be 22nd January, 2016.  Due to UK government restrictions, this studentship is only available to UK citizens and residents. Self-funded students are also invited to apply for this project, however.
