What amino acid  in whey protein is making me motivated when I drink it? If I can isolate it, my life will change. Here is the thing: after I drink my protein shake, I'm motivated to get work done and just take care of business. But this boost in motivation last for only about an hour and then I crash. This is the only thing that has a very noticeable effect on my mental state.

Whey hurts my stomach and causes some anxiety when I drink it so if I could get the motivation boost from a standalone substance, I would ditch it. And it only lasts a short time.

I know it's not the following AAs because I've already tried them seperately and they do nothing for motivation: tyrosine, tryptophan, histidine, glutamine. methionine, glycine, aspartic acid

So what the fck is it? maybe it's the BCAAs?

Optimum nutrition. Never mind. I took it today multiple times and it made no difference in motivation but with the side effects. I spoke too soon. The effect must have been a mix of things with the whey being the last part of the stack. Taken alone, it does nothing.

Sleep disorders are highly prevalent in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and can significantly impair cognitive rehabilitation. No proven therapies exist to mitigate the neurocognitive consequences of TBI. We show that mild brain injury in mice causes a persistent inability to maintain wakefulness and decreases orexin neuron activation during wakefulness. We gave mice a dietary supplement of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), precursors for de novo glutamate synthesis in the brain. BCAA therapy reinstated activation of orexin neurons and improved wake deficits in mice with mild brain injury. Our data suggest that dietary BCAA intervention, acting in part through orexin, can ameliorate injury-induced sleep disturbances and may facilitate cognitive rehabilitation after brain injury.

Nothing, as ALL aminos' compete for absorption. If they didn't then it would be tyrosine or PEA.

Are you taking anything on a regular basis lately, Noots or Other. Either just before or after the whey protein ?

This doesn't really apply to my case since I have no TBI and no issues with wakefulness. I have never tried BCAAs before so it won't hurt to try them. BCCAs lower all the major AA though so it can cause major depression if other AAs are not supplemented with it.

This is incorrect. Yes they compete for absorption, but that absolutely does not mean that none get absorbed. It lowers the absorption but does not eliminate it. If that was the case most stacks wouldn't work and nobody would get amino acids from foods. Totally wrong.

No noots right now, just vit D and mag.

The connection to Orexin is pretty fascinating.  I take Modafinil for sleep apnea on occasion and also take whey protein on almost a daily basis and have never really noticed any synergy-- I'll have to try each individually and then together again.

I suspect I have some traumatic brain injury from 14 years of playing football, but it's minor compared to many of the cases I've seen.  It's more that I suspect it's a trigger for depressive incidents in the past.
