Like I already wrote in the introductory forum, I guess I became obsessed with various supplements - vitamins, herbs and amino acids.. I received a very good reply, that what matters most for longevity is genetics and then medicine advances. I would add exercise and healthy food, no smoking etc. But how much do supplements help after all those things are sorted out? 5 %? 1 %? ...

As for supplements, I guess I really do take too many. I read about ALA and order it, then it is ALCAR and NAC, then Rhodiola, Vitaminc C (high dose) and Lysine, then Taurine. Not to forget Vitamin D and Vitamin K2. Some magnesium and fish oil caps.. And multivitamin. And cinnamon (Ceylon). I think all those supps are currently costing me about 30 EUR per month. I do buy in bulk so it is not so expencive, but on the other hand this is still 400 EUR per year, which for our standard in Slovenia is not so little... I guess I will have to stop reading various studies on the internet, because I will run out of money if I do..  :).. And still I could add to this "regime" curcumin and garlic extract etc etc..

And fitness supp are costing me about the same, another 30 EUR per month. Some whey and casein, then HMB and creatine, throw in some EAA and BCAA and Maltodextrin and Oats...  :)

So what do you guys think. Should I just consume what I have and stop with this shit..? I can save like 10k EUR in next 20 years if I stop with this and I can probably spend this money on some healthy food and exercise.. Money is not a problem for now, but one can never have enough of it so spending wisely is a good choice never the less I would say...

thanks for help :)

I spend above 400 EUR a month on a ongoing basis, and since it helped me prevent a disability from a severe PAD it's worth every Euro. If you are healthy I would stick with the basics you're already taking, and not to go overboard. For me the benefit is 100%, for you it would be gambling.

Agree. If you know they help you then ALL the money spent on it is money spent wise.. But I only take them as some form of insurance and precaution so I guess I will never be able to tell if they do any good. Of course above list it not even full :)! I just remembered I also take zinc, selenium, vitamin B and occasionally melatonin (for antioxidant purposes, i have no problems sleeping).. :) And even this list is not complete for sure. When ever I open a some drawer I find something else I am supposed to take... :))))

I added them gradually whenever I read something positive but now the list is so long that I forget to take some of them regularly.. I also have to juggle between taking some of them on an empty stomach, some are taken with food, fat soluble with enough fat etc.. I think all this already creates more stress then they help :)))

Inositol helped me with such OCT issues somewhat...

Seriously again, one of my issues is severe Mg deficiency. One thing I take is this Slovenian mineral water:

..which alone costs me more than 30 EUR a month.

If supplementing sugar pills cures your "brain fog" and improves your well being then I would argue you should probably keep supplementing, so long as it is not cost prohibitive.

If you are serious about your health then your diet should be your #1 focus, above exercise and supplementation.

Be careful with ALA it is a powerful chelating substance.

I take some basic supplements, but usually don't take the whole capsule.

selfhacked.com is a good information resource for supplements.
