I am looking for ways to improve memory that won't induce depression.
Whenever I take supplements such as huperzine A, alpha lipoic acid, or n-acetylcysteine, I seem to get in an extremely depressed mood.
Since acetylcholine and dopamine seem to have somewhat of an inverse relationship, I can only theorize that supplements increasing acetylcholine neurotransmission have the effect of temporarily lowering dopaminergic function. I could have this all wrong and it may be more of a cumulative thing than an acute effect, but acetylcholine-promoting supplements do seem to make me more depressed.
It seems that both my norepinephrine and serotonin levels are low, too. I'm currently taking Emsam (selegiline transdermal patch) at the 6 mg dose, so I'm not sure how this all factors in as well.
Any advice?
