Hello,

I was hoping someone from here might be able to give me any information or thoughts on the role of CGRP in aging and what effect blocking CGRP might have. I know it is related to pain and that some studies has linked lower levels of CGRP with increased longevity in mice ( http://news.berkeley...-and-the-obese/ ). It also seems like lower levels of CGRP are linked to lower levels of IGF-1. This bit is frustrating because as far as I can tell lower levels of IGF-1 are great for longevity and for warding off age related illnesses like diabeties however it also seems like higher levels of IGF-1 are also what keep you looking young as you age. For most people longevity is important and good health as we age is of the upmost importance but for most people, myself included looking "young" is also important to some extent. I have observed that some of the IGF-1 lowering stratagies people use mainly calorie restriction improve your metabolic age but sometimes the appearance is also perceived as older due to changes in the skin and perhaps in muscle mass. Higher levels of IGF-1 are asscociated with a lower perceived age http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/23363376

Can anyone offer any insight or advice on the benefits of something like CGRP antibody therapy on all aspects of the aging process i.e. would it benefit the metabolic aging process but be detrimental to the visual aspects of aging i.e wrinkles, hair growth, bone density and muscle mass?

Many thanks in advance!
