Trying to figure out why my anxiety and depression lifts when I have a bad flu or a cold. This is a repeatable phenomenon which happens every time.

I am wondering if anyone else experiences this and if so what can possible be the chemical interaction that might be causing this.

The strange part is that this happens regardless if I take flu medication or not, so I know it is not related to any medication interaction.

There was a study done awhile back that claimed that presymptomatic flu carriers became much more socially active. The theory was that this was an evolutionary adaptation that helps the virus to spread.

There is a phenomenon called the fever effect, where people with ADHD or autism will often experience significant reduction in their symptoms when they have a fever as a result of catching a cold or infection.

The theory is that the fever effect might be due to effects resulting from the activation of the locus coeruleus (LC) in the brain, since the LC controls body temperature during fever.

I've had the flu for a week now. It has significantly reduced my anxiety but worsened depression.
