As a computer programmer i had to work about 70 hours in a particular week. During this week i had started taking Pycnogenol (100mg 2x/day) on top of my normal dosage of L-theanine 200mg (1-2x/day about 5 days/week). It wasn't until about the 3rd time that i took this combination that i began to notice tension around my eyes. This produced the need for me to begin to rub my eyes. Wanted to rub the harder but would not as i know the eyes are sensitive. This happened 7 days ago and have since gotten a CT scan which came back normal. I can see fine through the left eye as well as the right eye but not both together. When looking through both together i tend to get overlapping images. Every once and a while it will seem fine, but for the most part the overlapping images remain.

Really nervous about this. Does anyone know of any possible interaction between Pycnogenol and L-theanine ?

There shouldn't be any problem taking theanine and pycnogenol together. They're both pretty innocuous in reasonable amounts and I've taken both on and off for years. Meanwhile it seems more than coincidental that these symptoms developed in the context of a seventy hour work week; doing a lot of desk and screen work by itself can add up to quite a bit of eye strain.

Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer, but if you're worried you may have ingested a toxic combination I think that's very unlikely. Aside from any medical advice you may be getting, try to take breaks from close work; getting outside for a walk and encouraging your eyes to relax and focus longer distances can't hurt.

Hope you get better soon!

theanine acts as a muscle relaxant, and pycnogebol contains the same stuff as blueberries, which were found to reduce eyestrain.

it could be the 70hr week, as mentioned above, or a sinus headache, or something you ate, or that you didn't get to the gym.

very unlikely it was those supp, unless youre taking a lotttt of them.

Thank you for your responses, after a couple of appointments with one doctor that did not seem as though they wanted to deal with the issue I found a specialist who really seemed to be on the up and up. Right now I have what I am hoping will be a temporary prism attached to one of my lenses. It is a big improvement compared to not having it. As i had mentioned before my vision seemed fine every once in a while but i now realize this was most likely due to the brain trying to use only the image from the good eye. Going to be getting some more testing done so if there are any that you guys recommend i would great appreciate it. Thanks again.
